Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis Declined $146M Max Contract; Will Become Free Agent
    TYLER CONWAY
    JANUARY 07, 2020

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis reportedly declined a four-year, $146 million contract extension and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported the Lakers made the offer to Davis on Tuesday, the first day they could under league rules. Haynes reported Davis declined the extension out of "salary-cap implications" and because he wants to focus on this season.

Exactly. It was and is expected he would turn that down because he gets so much more if he waits.

I believe nothing. Don’t even waste the energy reading the garbage. Most of it is manufactured garbage for clicks.

if a deal happens, great. Until then, there’s a lot of bills to pay and advertising to sell.

This is not news, despite ESPN using it for clicks and views. As stated, he gets 202 mil if he waits to re-sign, and if he take a 2-1 deal he can opt out and get the 10 year player Supermax deal after that, so don’t be surprised if that happens as well.

Anthony Davis waived a 4 million dollar kicker for the Lakers. In case clickbaiters forgot. Never click on those sites that you know are clickbait.

Here's the very short and unexciting update. My guess is you all know all this already, but I haven't been keeping up with the posts, Twitter, insiders etc. much recently. Won't be able to respond much till tomorrow.

-Regarding Kuzma, Lakers have been soft-shopping him for a few months. I think I had first heard about it and mentioned it in November. My understanding is a lot of the leaks now coming out now were based off exploratory calls the Lakers had made a while back. What I heard from Pelinka is that while the Lakers recognize the gaps in their roster, they like Kuzma's potential and his contract. They don't want to take on too much extra salary and miss out on future free agents like the Giannis pipe dream, and also feel they can't get a lot of equivalent value for few mil or so Kuzma is making. Most likely they will hold onto him unless a very good offer is made.

-Regarding Collison, Lakers interest is high. They are just waiting on his camp to move forward.

-Regarding AD, I am hearing based off initial physical exams LA medical staff thinks injury is not major but still need MRI results to confirm. Everyone can breathe :)

Nothing new for him. The deal was almost done this summer but fell apart. I'll see if I can dig up what I said then. I doubt it happens now honestly.

That's pretty much the chronology of how it went down. Lakers moved on a long time ago.

Also I saw something in the news about this today but AD is resigning this summer. It's just the # of years that haven't been decided. Whether they do a short term 2+1 type contract or a long term 5 year. Rich Paul is pushing for the shorter term deal but some in Davis's circles are asking him to just sign the max in the summer. Cousins has been a strong voice on that front.

^ Seriously, he should listen to Boogie. You never know when an injury or a serious health issue will happen. It's still more money, than him and all his family can spend in a few lifetimes.

yeah, i get maximizing your cash, but when you're talking about the difference between 200 million and 250 million, i'm not sure it matters. i suppose the same argument could be made about the difference between 146 million and 200 million, though. point is that he will have made enough money to set his family for generations in any case. at some point, there's literally nothing you can do with all that cash other than...be glad you have it? scrooge mcduck it in your basement?
