totally justified in the end, too. last year's roster was a joke from the outset that played out exactly as its critics suggested it would, and the cap shaving moves led to the signings you are now denigrating. i think it was a good save from a bad, bad plan.

exactly why hoarding cap space is silly. miami got jimmy butler whilst sitting in cap hell.

not going to rehash. it's monday morning quarterbacking that doesn't actually lead to hypothetical improvement. not to mention that those signings don't create enough space for iggy, who may or may not be done. and who may very well be bought out. in which case i expect you to throw out some high five gifs to rob for totally staring down memphis and getting what he wanted, right?

like, all the picks! why? because they're really not very valuable. neither us nor the clips will regret those moves. maybe not even if AD and PG thoroughly disappoint due to injury or some other concern. why? because data. anything outside the top 5 tends not to outperform your nba rotation player, many of which can be had for money similar to the rookie scale these days. we signed a bunch this year.

nice foresight on the danny ainge argument, but that doesn't make it groundless. who DOES know how to play that game? golden state? would they even argue that they know how to play that game? i can tell you that minny and sac and atlanta and host of other terrible teams have been trying to pla

edit: i actually had responded to the others, but it's not worth it, so it's (maybe thankfully) in the ether.

@abeer3 I appreciate the efforts in a retort, but at this point it doesn't appear that I shed any perspective to you and vice versa.

I believe picks matter... especially lottery picks. A #2 led to Moz getting dumped for the space needed for a maxed out Bron.

We needed two #2s, a #4 and a #1 Zion to grease that AD trade.

Htown needed to throw picks at Cp3 for Russ.

Warriors needed to throw 2 net picks at KD (via salary dump of Iggy) to gain DLo so that they could gain an asset.

We know what the cLips gave up to get George and lock up Kawhi.

We lost Jules, Zu, Moe (via JC/Nance), TB and Bonga for nothing in return. If all those assets led to a max guy this summer, then it's worth it. But for Green/KCP to get paid...come'n now.

In fact it was you that kept harping on DLo lost for cap, but it turned into Bron and Kuz.

So again, we're going to have to agree to disagree, but my endgame was always 3 max guys. Kcp is essentially untradable this year, so it would have to take Green, Kuz, Av and McGee just to salary match for a 25% max type player this year. Then you look at our draft capital and you see that we probably don't have enough.

^^^I'm sure the entire league knew we were big game hunting and wanted to preserve our space. Along with keeping a contingency for the free agents we wanted (Green), we could have also got in touch with Miami (hardcapped after Butler S&t) and the dubs/Nets (hardcapped after DLo KD S&ts) to exploit any salary dumping on their part.

At the very least the Okc/Miami scenario could have been exploited if not the Iggy/Harkless/Favors scenarios.

Why do we keep hearing about the Lakers keeping an eye towards Iggy? What one reason is there to think Memphis wouldn't just trade him?

His old a** just took a year long sabbatical, but this dogg should still have plenty of bite in him and he could help shore up our frontline depth.

Plus his new home is about 20 miles out from DTLA and dude definitely fits the #SmashBroRedux initiative (+ Zach can fit right in with Boogz & Dudz headband game gang)

Plus his sabbatical last year isn't an injury thing either...
