I’d rather sign a G-Leaguer than Smith. He’s washed, he’s incredibly stupid, and he throws bowls of soup. He literally cost his team a chance to win a Finals game because he didn’t know the score of the game. No thank you. Korver, sure I’ll take his ancient a** for the minimum, he’s not a moron, do not want Smith, especially if we keep any other knuckleheads around like Rondo, KCP, Lance.

    I don't particularly want him. :D

I'm just saying our minimum adds are going to be in that ilk. I'd prefer... most anyone else. But at some point we're going to end up signing guys like him.

I would think we could at least look to sign equally washed guys that are at least not morons first. I can’t imagine LeBron would love to have him back after this either, he broke his damn hand out of anger because of this

If he's sitting squarely on the bench in crunch time it would he okay probably. And for sure I'd rather get smarter vets, but I just dont know if they'll be available for the minimum.

Would you rather have JR or Lance? :D

Lance. Without hesitation. Knows his role, seems to be well liked by teammates, and when he gets hot he is incredibly fun to watch. He’ll also be 29 in September while Smith will be 34.

I agree. I just think these are the kinds of guys we're going to be looking at. To be honest, I'd take both for the minimum.

Woj just said on SC that Houston wants to push the Sixers to do a sign and trade for Butler. Said they’d tell Jimmy to go to the Sixers and say I’m gonna walk, or you can trade me for something. Said the Rockets would offer Gordon/Capela (wasn’t clear if he meant either or both) to make salaries match. God I hate Houston.

I’m going to remember this when JR costs us a Finals game.

I'd call Morey's bluff. Find a suitor to eat those contracts. I'd rather lose Jimmy for nothing then get strong armed while you keep handing out bad contracts.

If he's on the court during a pivotal moment, something has gone wrong. :D

Is that not tampering that Houston is doing? Oh yeah, that only counts against the Lakers.

Forgot to comment on this. Really hope he just meant in general because if that’s order of priority it’s wrong. When you already have AD and LeBron you need either a shooter or PG first, big man should be the lowest priority as far as money goes.

I didn’t want to type all this so I just recorded and uploaded it. Woj on Russell and our other options in free agency outside of a max contract (Collison, Ross).

God I wish we could somehow get EG
Perfect guard creator next to Lebron

Seriously what I thought when I first read about this. It's tampering plain and simple and this isn't the first time by Morey either (Cp3). What's hilarious is that Houston is really threatening Philly with another teams' cap space that Jimmy can leave them for, so they should get Capela and Gordon from them to salvage lost costs. Is this s*** real life?

Morey can find a way but holy s*** will this be complicated.

First, Harden/Cp3 is 76.7m of their cap alone. If you add Butler's 32.7m max + Tucker's 8.5m, you're already past the cap at 118m and just 14m away from the luxury tax...only 20m away from being hard capped at the cap apron (more on that later).

Second, a S&t will hard cap the team trading for that player. So at no point during next season can Htown bypass the tax apron of 138m. So with only 4 players, Htown will only have 20m to round out the roster.

Third, if a S&t occurs then Htown as the receiving team of that s&t player will not have the MLE to use by rule. So they won't have the tax payer Mle of 5.6m.

Last, a S&t will make Butler a poison pill contract. Butler in a S&t will count as 20m in outgoing salary for Philly, however Htown will see that salary as the full 32.7m in incoming salary. So if Philly sends out only Jimmy, then they can bring back about 25m in salary only... Capela/Gordon aggregate to nearly 29m, so Philly works need to add more salary to make a legal trade. But remember Htown will be hard capped, so any additional salary will limit their flexiblity in getting this deal done without bringing in a 3rd team to take on that salary. This is why a poison pill contract is the farthest thing from a misnomer.

    Cool story Morey.

Btw, rumor has it that Kyrie bought a new house in New York and is a done deal for BK, so if not Kawhi, Butler is now my personal plan B.
