That’s fair. I haven’t actually seen Cory Joseph play since he was in Toronto... and back then he was Frank VanVleet before Frank VanVleet was in the league. A capable backup combo guard who can hit the open 3.

I missed your list of player production. Would you be able to repost it or provide your insight on who you think the Lakers should target for backup PG by using the vet minimum or room exception?

This means opting for role players is a bad idea. Another one of those years where scrubs like Mozgov and Biyombo fetches $15+M.

    Go get that max player.

Stay away from Cory Joseph, I’ve seen nothing but well nothing when watching him the last few years. I’m glad Trodgers numbers back that up.

Let someone else give him money (if they are even offering).

All those numbers represent if every team renounced their free agents (UFA and RFA). Also each 1st round draft pick's caphd is also included in those calculations.

In the case of the Pels, BK, ATL, Wiz, Suns and us as well as any other team that made salary/caphold related trades before the draft, those numbers are also reflective of those transactions. However what's bizarre is that our numbers are reflective of AD taking his entire trade kicker. We actually have 32m. Now if the trade does go down immediately after the moratorium, we won't. And that goes for all the other teams that have made pre-draft trades.

Barnes already opted out and WCS now wants out of Sacramento.

Exactly right. #3MaxOrBust; with AD/Bron, we only get an opportunity for a max slot like this one time for the foreseeable future...so we can't mess this up.

With the trade of Baynes and with Ky and Hortford gone, they do have that space. Again all these numbers are refective of each teams free agents (both UFA and RFA) to be renounced. In Boston's case, that means Rozier.

    Btw....

Bron just happened to reply to the wrong cuff tweet.

Championship free agent(s) on the way.

He's a good fit but he's still young so he's probably fishing for a nice payday, not the room exception.

I absolutely agree with you Elgin. Great post. If he's going to leave, he should be a Laker, period.

yeah, guys are opting out to get pizzaid, not to take the minimum.

Don't get me wrong, we'll ask them all, but that conversation gets real easy if we sign Kawhi and they know all that is left is minimum contracts. Then you know the interest is legit.

They could have unlimited cap space and come opening night they’d still be trash.

What would these four options cost?
    1. Kyrie = $32,700,000
    2. Kemba = $32,700,000
    3. Brogdon = RFA. Must outbid MIL. Does $15,000,000 do it?
    4. Russell = $27,250,000

Based on those numbers it's by far and away better to sign a few cheap shooters quickly and hold $15m-$18m to put an offer sheet on Brogdon. Milwaukee is trying to herd cats with all but two of their main guys free agents right now. Plus, with Bledsoe, it's likely MIL doesn't value a combo-guard like Brogdon as high as the Lakers do, so they might be willing to let him go and then sign a true SG like Reddick, Lamb, Ross or Satoransky for less money.

There was an article back on May 3rd suggesting 14-16m for Brogdon. He's a guy I'd take a long, hard look at. If his salary is literally $10m less than those other guys' contract, he's for sure worth it. Unfortunately, that means Milwaukee is very likely to match, so you have to overpay relative to that figure to get him. But he might be worth more like 20m.

Here's the thing: Brogdon is between 70th and 80th for value on Hollinger's and a few other measurement sites. The 70th highest salary for last season was 15m, and the lowest was 14m. The cap has increased by about 7% from last year to this year. That would be in the 15m-16m based on 2018-19 salaries, but the thing is that he's younger than I believe every player in that group. He's also younger than almost everyone in the NEXT group up, ranging from 15 to 16.9m. He's even younger than basically everyone in the NEXT group up, too. That's up to 19m. Do you see the trend? He might well command $20m a season, and he might well be worth it, so IF Milwaukee can match, they would.
