i think the mavs tried to move smith and couldn't get much for him. hart may be in higher demand currently. it's not a good look to step away from the team midseason because you're unhappy with your role and performance in your second season at age 20.

anyway, in terms of lebron fit: wade was actually a bad fit with him, imo. the whole there was less than the sum of its parts. kyrie worked because he was such a good shooter. smith isn't.

Do we even have enough contracts to make a Conley deal work?

Actually just checked trade machine....we can send out KCP, Rondo and Stephenson and that works...

probably can throw our 1st round pick in this year's draft and maybe Mo or Svi as well to sweeten the deal...

But damn Conley's deal is catastrophic...he tops out at $35M 2 years from now...and he'll be 33 by then...it's definitely risky

kcp/rondo/stephenson gets it done, but it kills cap space next summer. after fighting this hard to get it, you don't blow it on conley.

my argument was that teams that are either capped out or unlikely to sign anyone should be making offers for conley, not us.

that said, you know my feelings on cap space. if i were gm, i'd strongly consider it. but that's not why maglinka sold everyone.

edit: you beat me to it.

Yeah I'd probably go for Vucevic over Conley at this point...present a similar package and see where it goes.

At least thsi way....we can see how Vuc fits and if he ends up being a good fit...maybe you consider him in free agency on a 1 year max deal to preserve cap room and threaten the Pels with 2020 cap space? Who is Vuc's agent?

Well then...no connections to really get insight on Vuc then huh?

We should just give them McGee, KCP and maybe Mo Wagner and a pick for Vuc...decent haul for someone that may leave them in free agency (unless they've told Orlando he plans on staying)

One would think Orlando would trade him. They aren't exactly OUT of the playoff race, only a handful of games out of it, but they've been sliding (3-7 in last 10). See what assets you can get for him, tank and develop Mo Bamba/Jonathan Issacs. Those two trees and Aaron Gordon makes me think they would target guards in any trade.

    KCP and Hart then likely?

Maybe a 3-way deal that lands Magic DSJ, and the Mavs get KCP (who is a great fit next to Luka?) and we get Vuc?

I think Vash drew up a scenario with those three teams a couple pages back.

    I see it differently:

    Vuc to LA
    DSJ to Orlando
    KCP/Hart to Dallas

why would you give up all that if you dont have plans to resign Vuc? thats a terrible waste of assets, its not like Vuc is the missing piece for us to get over the west or be true contenders

Yeah. But I think Smith does have more value than Hart. I'm just not enthralled with Ball at this point. The best ability is availability. Ball is only 20 and hasn't been able to stay healthy. If the deal is Hart for DSJ, I do it and don't think twice. DSJ still has as much potential as anyone and I think he can be taught at this early age how to play with a guy like Bron. If not, he has trade value this summer to land that next star. Lonzo, Ingram, two firsts and maybe Zubac is a nice package for AD. With DSJ for Hart, we still have a young promising pg with loads of potential, AD, Kuzma and of course, Bron. That way when Bron retires at the end of his deal, we hopefully have a developed DSJ, Kuzma as a fringe all-star and AD to build around. Ideally, we also sign Middleton with all our cap space this offseason as well.

not a rumor but I saw this suggestion on realgm, KCP for Corey Joseph. This would be great for us, we need a backup PG with Zo out for who knows how long and Rondo hasn't been Mr. Reliable either. joseph makes 5mill less than KCP and expires as well....WIN/WIN!!! extra WIN cause we no longer have to see KCP ugly mug dawning lakers gold anymore, he can do in Indy's gold lol

    Per Oram of The Athletic:

So here's some possible splash to go with that smash.

Some interesting notes is that both Ariza and T.Ross are repped by Mintz (see allowing Jules to bypass restricted free agency). Maybe the Wiz will be more accommodating instead of Sarver.

When it comes to Ellington, Magic obviously has some rapport with Riles... Ellington has been a Laker before...when it comes to salary matching, if it's for KCP, Miami would need to send along a minimum contract as well, but LA would then need to open up a roster spot to all a 1 for 2 trade....or it's not KCP and it's Lance for Ellington as the core of the package.

    Also...

So maybe this is why we were involved with the Mavs to get DSJ??...Maybe we would be facilitating a deal where DSJ is sent to Orlando.

Is Kemba still available? I know Charlotte is hanging on to a playoff spot, but with Kemba likely on his way out and no shot about beating top tier teams, they should consider recouping assets before he leaves.

Ingram still has a lot of growing to do, but is still a much better prospect than DSJ.
DSJ hasn't developed into the player Dallas wanted him to, but still possesses potential.
Kemba is the scoring punch the Lakers desperately need behind Lebron.

    LA in: Kemba
    LA out: Ingram, Stephenson

    DAL in: Ingram
    DAL out: DSJ, 1st

    CHA in: DSJ, Stephenson, 1st
    CHA out: Kemba

With Luka, Barnes, and Ingram, Dallas could have a pretty nice young core of positionless SF's. The Hornets get a young piece to make up for losing Kemba, Stephenson is familiar with Charlotte and could keep their head afloat, and they get a 1st.

I thought we had enough shooting and/or didn't need it because we're not trying to outshoot the warriors?

So now we got the talking heads saying Kyrie is a possibility because he and Lebron made nice. Sign Kyrie trade the farm for AD?

I could see this one realistically playing out.

Sign Kyrie as FA = hurts C Bags & cements our PG for next 6-10 years. Gives us a true closer for the playoffs. Proven to be a Championship combo with LeBron.

Trade virtually the entire young core for AD.

    Profit.
