melo's inability to fit in with houston should doom his attempts to catch on anywhere but a lotto team that needs to sell tickets. i'll be disappointed if our FO goes after him. i would have considered trading deng for him over the summer, but that was just to dump that albatross. i'm guessing had we done that, we'd be the ones cutting melo right now.

the real issue is defense. he's shown no interest in his career, and i don't know why anyone would expect that to change. with the way the game is played currently, you can't hide disinterested defenders very easily (houston's had a hard time keeping harden hidden in the playoffs).

At least Harden's offensive game is superstar level in this new NBA, he's awesome most of the time. And he actually cares about basketball. Melo is pretty much done, physically and mentally. Looks totally disinterested and his game did not age well. No one needs an iso mid range shooter anymore. Not if he shoots under 35% on threes and plays no D.

What we need eventually is a younger star who can let Bron get his $tats, 25+/7/7 or something similar for the next couple of years and take pressure off him in crunch time, the way Kyrie did. I think we can get that person, but we have to be ready to trade some of our young guys, including Ingram, if the opportunity presents itself. We need better balance of talent because right now there is some redundancy and not too many people who can take over in the last two minutes when necessary.

Good of a time as ever to post this given the Melo news in how he could be on the market again. For the love of all things good in basketball, please Lakers stay away.

@vasashi17 is it possible to add Beal (via trade) and have enough space to add AD in the future?

Kemba was exactly who i was thinking of...he is kind of in the mold of Kyrie and doesn't seem to mind if LeBron is LeBron.

I wouldn't say no to Kemba at all...in fact, I'll pack Lonzo's and Ingram's bags if it meant getting Kemba AND AD to pair with LeBron...

Well, most people would. He is 28 years old, his numbers are awesome (28/4/6), can shoot the 3, his FT% is great... I mean, he does the job on a consistent basis. He could be that guy.

I didn't realize Kemba was already 28, going on 29...

That's a little tad bit older than expected but i'd still take him at 29 years old.

Only problem is he's kind of a midget and I don't want him to be IT2 as he gets older...(granted, IT2 is 5'9...and Kemba is 6'1)

I think 6-1 is quite alright if you are that efficient. His handles are unbelivable. He is in his prime. Basically, if you want him, the time to get him is now. Also, he missed 1-2 games per season in his last three years.

I'm assuming you intend to trade for Beal this year (with most likely BI since his max deal would be up first) and wait for AD in free agency (earliest is summer 2020 when he can opt out of his final year and the cap is set to be 118m with 41.3m being the 35% max year 1 of a max deal at that time, which AD is most likely looking to sign for.

So with Bron, Zo, Kuz, Hart, Moe, Bonga, Svi, Deng's cap stretch hit and Beal, team salary would be 96.6m...and let's say the incomplete roster charge of 4 is about 4.5m then we would have only about 17m in cap space left. Obviously not enough for a maxed out AD.

Let's say he pulls the Cp3 route and opts into his player option of 28.8m and forces a trade to the Lakers, then we can take a chunk of that contract into our available cap space and that means we could trade Zo's 11m for AD and that would work cap-wise.

Hope that answers your question LVBD.

Lebron likes Carmelo, and he can score in the paint, but he’s a ball stopper. He’s not a fit here at all.

I am wondering more and more if we can swoop in grab someone from the Wizards at a low price.
