This is what the NBA has wanted all along, as long as it doesn't involve the Lakers contending.

Minnesota is saying no and now everyone over there needs to get fired. If you can get 4 lightly protected 1sts for an expiring contract, you f***ing do it. That's nonsense to say no to and they look stupid.

Eh....we don't know the details on the full offer. Plus, eating Knight's contract isn't nothing. They'd have to use one or two of those picks to get out from under it.

Gordon, tucker, unprotected 1sts in 21 and 23. That would be my counter.

Out from under it? Why? Minnesota isn't tanking, they need the PG depth anyway. You're getting 4 1st round picks for a guy who wants out.

You are/were a proponent of the Brooklyn model. This is almost exactly the Brooklyn model.

Honestly Butler isn’t the guy I’d be looking to trade, he’s one of the best players in the league. I’d be offering Towns and Wiggins instead. Towns asking out of a close game the other day after he airballed a 3 was a horrible look.

If I were Minn I'd Hou take Dieng back if they're dropping in Knight and I"m asking for no protection on all but 1 of the 1st and even then Id only give em top 3 protection.

Crazy thing is Kat signed an extension which makes him a poison pill contract to trade this year. Minny sees him as a 7.8m contract while the other team trading for him sees him close to 35m in incoming salary. If Kat gets traded, it's more likely next year.

In terms of the picks, protections on the pick would be so lightly protected that it's possible they use the 2019 pick and have light lottery protections on that pick that roll over to the '21, '23 and '25 picks.

Also Houston needs to shed salary if they're thinking of throwing the bag at Butler next summer. So I can see how they would use at least 1 1st rounder to move off of 2yrs 37M in Knight/Nene.

Meanwhile Minny is looking to move Dieng and his 3 yr 48m deal. But Houston ain't taking that cause they need as much wiggle from the luxury tax to throw Jimmy his bag.

So the 4 1st rounders have to be a break up in having 1 pick attached to take on Knight/Nene and maybe 2 picks to reroute Dieng with (Sac interested?).

So the trade framework breaks down as:

    Houston: Jimmy
    Minny: Gordon, Knight/Nene, 2 1sts
    Sac: Dieng, 2 1sts

Minny is probably getting cold feet cause they only get 2 1st rounders and flip Dieng's 3yrs 48m for Gordon/Knight/Nene's 2yr 65m....all while losing the best player in this trade.

Is it worth taking on 17m in additional salary for the short-term and losing your best player for 2 lighty protected/unprotected 1sts from a team that is looking to compete for at least the next 3 yrs?

LOL Jimmy playing next to Haren. Perfect fit being that Jimmy flops and cheats too. Said no one. And wasn't the story he wanted big left or right coast city and "his own team"? He's going to be down with being at best 2nd fiddle to James freaking Harden and sign long term in Houston?

Butler is from Houston, right? I think he'll resign there. No team is making him the face of the franchise anyways ;).

    Oh.

Still ... an arguably old school player having to live with the kind of game Haren plays ...he will like probably not so much. Hopefully.
