All Dallas-Jules related. Also, LA has yet to put a QO on Jules...that deadline is rapidly approaching (6/29).

Just make sure I'm looking at this correctly:

Making Julius a qualifying offer means he'll be a restricted free agent. But if we don't give him the qualifying offer then he turns into a unrestricted free agent this off-season.

    Is this generally correct?

Yes, and we lose the ability to match other offers to keep him.

Keep in mind that if we make him a qualifying offer, it puts his cap hold on the books...

I can't dream of anyone saying no to Jeanie.

saw an interesting take, wanted some cap experts opinion, if PG is willing to opt-in to get traded and OKC agrees but wants us to also aborb Melo, would this work cap wise and value wise?

    Pg/Melo for Deng/19 top 3 protected/maybe a 2nd as well

would this allow us to tender Randles qualifying offer to keep him rfa AND give us the 35mill we need to James?

Deng is dead space but OKC would get 2 tpe, one for PG/Deng difffernce (2-3mill) and a GIANT one (27mill for Melo)...Melo's tpe can lead to a lot of good things for OKC if they want to absorb 1yr deals or 2yrs+ on better/younger players for more assets.

Deng for an opted in PG works salary wise. Then dumping Melo into our cap space would work as well, gaining OKC a 28M TPE.

I don't see how we can retain Jules tho. With the deal, LA's team salary would be 70M (31M in cap space). So in that scenario, Bron would have to take a pay cut off his max (35M).

If we stretch Melo (3 years 9.3M per) then that would open up 18.6M in salary cap giving us a total of about 50M in cap space and that would allow us to hold onto Jules AND give Bron the max (48M in cap space necessary).

That's kinda brilliant, but that dead cap kind of kills it for me. Either way, another crazy option to have.

Sure, but we've been going off of that assumption all summer.

Silver is nothing like Stern. Silver is a good dude. Stern is a midget piece of garbage that needs to burn.

Others have answered this already, but I just want to make sure we cross the t's and dot the i's.

We have to extend a QO to Jules to make him a RFA. If we don't, then he becomes an UFA. We can also later renounce our QO and make him an UFA once free agency starts (see what Detroit did with KCP last summer). So its in our best interest to offer him a QO even if we don't intend to keep him at a higher number.

With a QO (5.6M), there's a cap hold of 12.4M put on our books. This is kind of a relic from the old CBA in regards to BYC players. But if Jules doesn't sign another team's offer sheet and doesn't like our offer, then 12.4M comes off our books and gets replaced by 5.6M in an expiring 1 year contract. Jules would then be an UFA next summer.

The other option we have is that we can offer Jules a max QO before June 29th: 5 years 148M (25.4M in year 1). This is done to deter other teams from giving Jules an offer sheet during free agency. If they do offer a max sheet, then they're only limited to 4 years 109M (25.4M in year 1). Why Jules would sign that offer sheet and us matching right away, instead of signing our 5 year max QO is beyond me.

But those are our options in keeping him.

However if we're interested in trading him, we can also do a S&T up to the max amount of 4 years 109M (25.4M in year 1 of that contract).

Hope that clears up any questions on the options we have with Jules.

Also here's a list of all the option players still deciding on their options:

Another upcoming key date for us before July hits, is that Zu's nonguaranteed contract becomes fully guaranteed on June 30th.
