That actually is really bad news for us and would be bad news in general.

I have a hard time believing the players would go for that.

players won't go for a hard cap. so...look for a work stoppage, i guess. yay. although, tbh, if lebron joins houston, i'll support a work stoppage because there will certainly be a viewing stoppage on my part.

honestly, FA hasn't really been the problem. the durant situation was totally bizarre and could have been avoided if the players had allowed for cap smoothing.

i really think the supermax and various other mechanisms are about as good a deterrent to big name player movement via FA that can be devised without stomping on the players' rights as workers. i mean, how many top-flight guys have left their teams in FA prior to year 8 of their careers? i just don't see it as a huge issue.

the league needs to do more to close the trade loopholes, and i'm certain they will. the chris paul shenanigans last summer probably put the nail in that particular issue, but they'll have to wait until the next negotiation period to get rid of it. simple fix, really: get rid of options altogether. i suppose you could do something more complicated, such as make option dates occur prior to the end of the season but post-trade deadline, too.

i also wonder if making more of the lux tax penalties basketball-related would help, too. like...if you're a repeater, teams under the cap get to bid on your assets or something (like an expansion draft of sorts). because i can assure you the the warriors and rockets owners are going to pay those taxes to keep their teams on top for now. they'll make up the losses when they sell the team. plus, it's really a vanity venture for these dudes.

It's also going to destroy what makes the NBA the best league in sports with all the drama during Free Agency and the trade deadlines. Terrible idea Adam that I don't think you should be pursuing.

Adam wants to beat the NFL. Evidence is there. Hard cap might be the only way to have parody in the NBA. It also would end superteams.

If this is the case, it should be a 3 year out of high school rule if a player decides to go to college. You can go straight from high school to the NBA, but if you don't, you have to stay for 3 years after HS.

What that does is have ready made talent coming in and make a bigger impact quickly.

I am not that worried reading that within the whole context. But still we better sign PG and Bron soon ;) ...

One could argue there was never been more parity than in the past season.

In the western conference, seeds 3 to 9 were separated by like 2 games.

In the East, the 7 and 8 seed were Milwaukee and Washington who took their first round series matchups against Toronto/Boston to 6 and 7 games.

The league isn’t really top heavy except for Golden State, and they have to pay close to a billion dollars soon to keep that core together.

I can see Silvers point that we need parity at the bottom of the league, but to do that we need to eliminate tanking (incentive to lose). The straight out of high school or3 years in college rule would be good to help teams that are high lottery teams gain young players to build around.

Shouldn't we be looking for a big man as well? It's been a minute since we had a dominate guy who can grab boards and give us points in the paint.

The problem is there's only a few of those left. Most bigs these days are pretty useless goons. Unless we can trade for Davis or Towns, Lopez is pretty much one of our best fall back options.

I would love to see a bracket "playoffs" consisting of lottery teams that play for draft seeding. The champion of that "draft playoffs" would earn the right to draft #1 in June and the seeding is placed accordingly to where you finish (ie losing team in playoff finals drafts #2...from the final 4 let the losers in the semifinals play each other to determine who drafts #3 and #4, etc.)

This not only creates parity, but it decreases completely tanking and sure creates far more entertainment when the postseason does start. Imagine a draft Finals running concurrently right now and being televised on the off nights of Cavs vs Warriors.

And while we're at it, let's eliminate Eastern and Western conference seeding. The finals should be the 2 best teams duking it out...period. These guys are getting paid handsomely, so inconveniencing them with some more travel isn't the worst thing you can do to them.

Love the lottery thoughts but would have to think on ditching east vs west and likely I'd wind up being convinced.

i suggest reverse lotto with every lotto slot being up for grab ....i.e. everyone gets same amt of ping pong balls, 14th pick is selected 1st, 13th next n so on....tankers could still potentially get the 14th pick hahaha

Fixed it for you. There's already some parody in the league in my opinion. I think you meant parity.
