Including the one we're sending them, Philly has 2 first round picks and probably some Embiid health incentives that will kick in that will bring their projected $30M cap space to the $25M number Colangelo is speaking of.

So out of all the realistic destinations, Bron and PG can team up only in LA without another team getting involved (ie trade). Those two can only get their true max with either their respective teams or LA (via renouncing Jules & stretching Deng...again no other team has to get involved).

We're not at the mercy of any other team if Bron and PG want to come on board AND get their respective maxes.

Also, it goes without saying, I would prefer both these dudes sacrifice a modest portion of their max so that we can retain Jules and hopefully Jules doesn't command his max so that we can have some cap left to fill out the roster. Be judiously cautious in how you spend when you have cap space to create a deep competitive roster and then be frivolous when you operate above the cap to retain that deep competitive roster.

Lakers do not need Julius if they get Lebron and PG. Julius isn't good without the ball in his hands. And he isn't gonna have the ball in his hands if Lonzo and Lebron are playing. Lakers will need to get shooters to spread the floor and there isn't a chance in hell Julius becomes a 3-point shooter with consistent makes. Resigning Lopez would be perfect with Lebron and PG coming. He can shoot, he's versatile and might come at a bargain. He can also go to the block if needed.

    Lopez
    James
    Ingram
    George
    Ball

    Kuzma Super 6 man
    Hart Super 7 man
    Free Agent Shooter

Lakers contend and may threaten GS with that lineup if the pansies don't get hurt.

Julius is one of the best "rollers" in the game . If needed , he "just" could be Clint Capela on O

Philly plans to go all out for LeBron. Also interested in George and Kawhi.

I could definitely see them put together a solid trade package for San Antonio to get Kawhi maybe and then go after LeBron with Kawhi on the team. There's very little chance that San Antonio trades him to us unless we are willing to give up a king's ransom so going to the East Coast makes a lot of sense.

I could us ending up with "just" George and re-signing Randle. They'll sell it as the first big FA aquisition since Shaq and play up 2019 as another FA year. I'd be okay with that because I think George makes us a 45 win team (assuming the kids stay healthy), but it'd be tough to see LeBron and Kawhi end up on the Process. They're a very unlikeable group of kids and if there's a franchise that deserves karmic retribution, it's that one. It would be tough to see them succeed after all that nonsense.

Honestly I believe we can win 43-45 games without PG. Like you said, assuming the kids stay healthy. With George I’d say somewhere between 48-50 games. Again in a perfect world, I could see George being responsible for at least 5 wins or more.

I still have a hard time seeing afraid-to-even-try-shooting-the-ball-from-mid to-outside Simmons playing off the ball or LBJ not wanting it in his hands large % of the time as has been his whole career.

That'd be a pretty serious jump without any changes to the roster, but I could see it if we got really fortunate with our health. I'd love to say George puts us at 50 wins, but looking at Lonzo's and Ingram's health last year I sort of factored in about 30 games missed between those two and came out with 45 wins. I think 45 wins puts us in the playoffs for what it's worth.

What a mistake defensively that would be. When did you become only concerned with offense Guy?

Four of those 5 are really good defensive players.

Who are you leaving out .... LBJ or Lopez and who of them has the speed to do switches onto elite 3s, 2s and 1s reasonably well any more or ever of those 2? Year 2 and 3 from next year?

Did you hit your head and go back to 2010? There is no such thing as defense in the NBA anymore. What do you think I meant?? Shut down star players? You can't even look at players harshly anymore without fear of a tech 1. Why do you think anyone and everyone are throwing triple doubles left and right every game now?

What a weak answer. That would be a really dumb mistake to lose Julius if possible to keep all 3 just because of what you first stated. LBJ sucked on defense this year in the East and he's not going to be getting better in the West over the course of those battles next 3 years.

Julius is a 12 mil per year player. Sorry. Weak is your opinion of Julius. Julius is a role player. He will never be a difference maker when it matters most. He has the skill set physically but he doesnt have the mental strength to come in game in and game out and strike fear in opponents. I also think if you give Julius 20 million per, you are asking to destroy the team for the next 4 years. 20 mil per, or more is reserved for all stars not some guy who plays really good.

Who said 20M. We're hoping for 15-17 and a little of the old Super Team sacrificing from past precedents around the league. You're still not addressing defense nor that he will be yet again an even more explosive and better player next year and the year after while LBJ gets slower and slower. If Rob can work it to keep all three you do it. Forget the Death lineup already? Bite me with my opinion of Julius being weak. Weak was your opinion at the start of the season that you're now falling back on rather than the defense issue.

When has Randle played great defense? Lakers have no death lineup. Lakers have weak minded players that go out for 2 weeks because they are sore. Bringing in studs will kick everyone in the arse and make them step up or Magic will ship their a** out.

Laker fans have a problem overvaluing their players. Randle is a role player. Even if he played better than we thought this year, he is still just a role player. 15-17 million for him when you have to pay BI, Kuz and Lonzo in the near future is a dumb investment if you are going to pay Lebron 35 mil and PG 25 mil per.

Some right and some wrong from both you guys.

Its impossible these days to blanket price variation. Saying "X" amount is reserved for "Y" just holds less and less water with the new CBA and the cap where it is. 20 million is just 20% of the cap. Its not the ceiling it used to be and trying to argue what player is required with that much money is far too simplistic of an answer. Especially with bad teams willing to pay for high talent RFAs who may or may not have hit their ceilings.

That being said, it's also important we play the market and not our emotions on Julius. Im starting to wonder what his actual market value is. This is a guy who has consistently been undervalued. He "slid" in the draft. He spent two years not developing rapidly enough and last summer tried to sign a 12 million dollar deal. He outplayed that deal already and is likely due more, but what team is likely to spend on him? We'll just have to wait and see.

As for defense on that Lopez/Bron/Ingram/George/Lonzo team, they'd be fine. LeBron is in his "opportunistic" defender phase of his career, but Ingram, Ball, and George are all plus defenders and while Lopez can't switch, he is still a very good rim protector and solid floor spacer. That lineup would be very, very good and likely the 2nd best team in the West.

I'm not eager to lose Julius, but if the outcome of losing Julius, Nance, Clarkson, and Russell is LeBron, George, Kuzma, Ball, and Hart I can live with that. Most teams don't make it out of the hell we've been living. There'll be sacrifices along the way. Obviously with that said, keeping Randle is preferable, but if we get LeBron and George its not mandatory. Kuzma better get that defense going though. He'll have to be our murder lineup swing man.

    Ball/George/Kuzma/Ingram/LeBron vs
    Curry/Thompson/Iguodala/Draymond/Durant

    Strap in for the fun.
