We have real, useful players now in large part because of the moves this FO has made. Pope has been serviceable lately, Brook Lopez is better than people give him credit for, Hart, Kuzma. That's all because of this FO and the moves they've made. This team is playing about as well as most of those middle-of-the-pack playoff teams like Denver, Portland, maybe even the Thunder. I don't think that can be dismissed easily.

But we've moved into a different discussion I think though. The original point I made was regarding the random fandom of D'Angelo Russell. Now we're talking about things going forward, that's fine.

Personally, I wouldn't mind taking on a bad contract with picks as long as I know we don't have a shot at anyone in FA. For instance, the move to get Lin was wonderful. Given where we are right now (stacked with young talent and not too many long-term bad deals) we're in a very enviable position. We have the luxury of taking big shots in FA and also developing from within. The plan may look the same as the last plan, but it's different now because of the young guys we have. Two years ago we didn't have the 2017 draft class. The 2017 draft class changes the way everything will work. They provide cheap, young talent which means we can compete every night while also giving us cap room to even make runs at somebody.

This summer if (maybe when) George and LeBron choose other teams, I'd love to take on Enes Kanter or Wes Mathews or Demarre Carroll or Thaddeus Young or Tyson Chandler or Marcin Gortat or Vucevic or Alec Burks along with a pick or something. They expire, we stay in a position of flexibility while our young guys continue to develop with each other. I'd also love to keep Lopez around long-term for low money.

KCP I couldn't really care less about. He's generally solid, but he's average at best.

The more I think about it, the more I could see us going after DeAndre with a 4 year deal at like 15 million to start. It still leaves us a max slot open in 2019 and we can probably even retain Julius and Clarkson.

I'm open to it, but I don't see DeAndre Jordan going for it. He's going to get max from someone. I don't know who, but someone is going to give him big bucks. The Pacers make a lot of sense. The Mavericks :)D :D :D ) make a lot of sense. Jordan will get big bucks somewhere.

Hey hopefully the Mavs go that route and it keeps them from making a big bid on Randle.

What do you think about going for Clint Capela real?

I think he fits our timeline and fits what we want from a center.

I like Capela, but I'm not sure I want to be the team that pays him. I think we need a scorer more than anything. There's also a history of overpaying guys like him. Interestingly I think he's way more valuable to Houston than anyone else.

Willy wanted out of NY cause he wasn't playing. Unless Charlotte trades away some big men, he'll be buried at the end of the bench there too.
