    Here's a trade idea:

Luol Deng, Corey Brewer, 2020 First Round Pick and 2018 Second Round PIck for Derrick Favors and Joe Johnson (both are expiring)

Favors and JJ can help us right now too, and are nice steady vets for our young guys. Jazz get picks for 2 players they're going to lose anyway (and who knows maybe that 2020 first round pick ends up being really good for them if we strike out this summer and we are still sucking in 2020)

    Another trade idea could be:

Luol Deng, Jordan Clarkson, 2020 First Round Pick and 2018 Second Round Pick for Derrick Favors, Joe Johnson and Rodney Hood (all 3 are expiring)

Basically if we strike out on all FA's, we can at least look to re-sign Rodney Hood at a modest price to be our 2-guard next to Lonzo. But this gives us a lot more flexibility.

Utah needs to build for the future and if they're able to collect assets like the Nets are doing, why wouldn't they?

1st round picks especially from us could be gold if we strike out in free agency (very likely outcome).

Plus, Utah can always stretch Deng and pay $7M per year or do the extend and stretch thing that Pincus wrote about and pay him $3M per year for 11 years....that way it doesn't hurt their cap situation short term or long term.

Look at how it turned out for the Jazz trading up to get Mitchell...they can do well using their own picks and our picks to move up higher in drafts later on...especially with Utah not being a FA destination, they need picks more than anything.

If Deng was still playing half way decent and contributing then sure but JJ is probably playoff team bound and Favors/Hood could net them better assets than a Dinosaur, draft picks and JC. We'd be getting away with robbery with those trades.

REMINDER: No one as in literally NO ONE wants Dung, start every trade idea with that notion then it has a chance to happen but if Rob can somehow do it without us being completely hosed I'll start a petition for his sainthood at the Vatican

i've provided two semi-realistic deng trades in the past couple of days.

nobody wants to eat deng's full contract. i think some teams will eat half.

It was the same with Lou Williams ... We all saw what happened for us after we traded him last season .

Dumping such players with flaws but who have a solid ability to create something out of nothing offensively doesn't make the team better , it makes it SIGNIFICANTLY worse .

I have yet to see better overall players coming to our team in such trades

yeah, i know we did well with a few late 1sts recently, but you can't outperform the curve to that degree forever. even the spurs have more misses than hits at that point. i was one of those who didn't like moving lou for that price, and even though it worked out ok, i'm still not sure it was wise. the most valuable commodities are guys outperforming their salaries.

part of why ainge was genius in basically using up isaiah thomas's prime years at sub MLE money, then capitalizing on his value right before he was due for a payday. notice that value came in the form of a star.

It will be an uphill battle for him to achieve sainthood as he obviously would have sold his soul and maybe the souls of his children to Satan himself in order to get rid of Deng.

apparently, marc stein said the mavs were willing to take on salary for picks, even for reclamation projects. stein is plugged in in dallas. i think noah or deng will be there by the deadline.

I think if we can flip Clarkson for a 1st, then package it with Randle and Deng to Dallas, I think that’ll work.

Something like Frye+IT+CLE 1st for JC.

Then take the CLE pick with Randle and Deng for Noel+Barea or Harris.

So we give up both Clarkson and Randle to get rid of Deng. Damn. Im honestly at the point where i dont feel comfortable trading either until the offseason. We could get screwed.

Sav, I actually like lf2's approach (although I don't think Cleveland would give up that much for JC). I don't understand why folks are so hesitant in giving up JC and Randle. Those guys are currently top 2 in usage %age for us and what exactly has calling out their number led to? We're still god awful with them. So without them, I would take my chances.

Especially if Deng is off the books for good.

Question: Who would you rather sign for $18-20M/4yrs?

    Julius Randle or Clint Capela?

None. But I would love to get Jules at 13-15M.

I believe you gotta be wise with your cap. 20M+ should go to fringe all-stars and above. Jules ain't one.

Ideally shedding Deng and adding 2max players plus retaining Jules at 13M+ has always been the end game for me.

If you need Jules to move Deng....I pull without even thinking...then I mourn his motor later.

If you had to choose which player you prefer at that price with a gun to your head? :)

Haha....Jules all day! He's a Laker and has put in blood, sweat and tears for our squad. Unlike the clips, I got some loyalty.

I just think its unfortunate that Jules is in a window where we need cap to fulfill a goal and his potential contract could be problematic in achieving it.

Jules coming off the bench to add longevity to LaBron or Jules as our small ball 5 joining Bron at the 4 with our hands lineup of Zo, PG, Ingram would be so fun to watch on D.

That's my ideal scenario and I'm hoping it comes to fruition. But gawd deng it, there's always gotta be an obstacle.
