Cause the Queens are out of disgruntled stars and only have disgruntled role players to sell at this point (ie Hill, ZBo).

Is this real life? We're using rival and scumbag teams like the C bags and Queens to give, of all teams, the Clippers an argument that they can one up our Lakers. Some of y'all might need to hand in your Laker cards haha.

Seriously tho, I'm all about rebelling against a FO you don't believe in. I fought that fight for a minute when it came to Jimbo/Mitch. But you can't project that 2018plan will be a failure due to the mishandlings and complete ineptitude of the pervious regime. I see no sense in that. But what really boggles my mind is that nearly every team would create a 20xx plan if they sincerely believed they had a shot at a key free agent. So we're literally doing what any FO with a pulse would do (outside of the Queens). Any team would do their due diligence to secure 2 max players if they were told they had a shot at it. So if our FO is currently in the process of achieving it, doesn't that ring some bells that there's more to this tale that we don't know about?

I agree that both the Lakers and Clips are no good as presently constructed and that if you're a win now player, you probably pick a DJ/Lou over the potential of Kuz/Zo/BI.

However, DJ hasn't proven that he can win anything with 2 other allstars on the roster and Lou is an NBA nomad, so you can't stack your chips on him either if you're signing on with the belief that he's going to stick on that team.

But the biggest impediment for the Clips is how the NBA fraternity views the Clips FO and how they did one of their "Clipper for life"rs. In this regard alone, I'm pretty sure the Blake deal was more Lawerance than West. Cause West had always been the guy that has had savvy player relationships...It would be a huge misstep on his part to deal Blake in this manner cause no notable plugged in star is going to look at it favorably.

Recall that West was part of the Dubs brain trust and was one of the only vocal denouncers of trading Klay before KD got there. I'm not so sure West had majority say in this Blake deal cause you would think he would know the player backlash.

Meanwhile Magic/Pelinka sent Lou to a playoff contender. DLo was sent to a great market and we allowed KCP a bright stage to earn that massive payday he wanted...The rest was on him. I would say our player relations are good, particularly cause our max targets have had nothing but great things to say about Magic. And that is why the Lakers come out on top over the Clips for me.

Seriously tho... You guys are arguing for the Clips...Wtf?

@vasashi17 .....most team dont operate on 20xx max plans cause theres only so many fa destination teams n 2ndly teams who operate on 20xx plan usually digress from it once it starts failing the 1st 2-3x i.e. Dall. If this mgmt continues to operate on 20xx n cont doing 1yr contracts, signing dleaguers, n trading off young talent to keep the cap space then theyre not operating successfully n our team will continue to lose

Its called being able to look at teams and their situations objectively. Not everything needs to be seen through purple and gold tinted glasses.

You're preaching to the choir homie. Just ask Mitch/Jimbo sympathizers.

Sac was blasted for that Boogie deal and in retrospect, they f***ed up. The media then helped spin that Sac was on the rebound with all their vet pick ups this summer (their 2017plan) and now look at it. So seeing how that turned out, you think the Clips (who have done s*** to this point) can exploit another team?

Let's say the Clips have assets to pull off a trade for a disgruntled star (cause lord knows they got no shot at grabbing a top free agent now), then you're thinking a disgruntled player is going go full on gruntled now that he's with the Clips? Really?

Magic and Rob are novices at this, yet our own fans have more faith in a franchise that historically has done s*** to this point thinking West, the advisor, had major pull there. What exactly had Doc Rivers (sans Danny Ainge) and Lawerance Frank done to give you such red/blue colored specs, buddy?

@Khmrp I'm not going to really get into a topic I've pretty much discussed ad nauseum...I think your largely pessimistic outlook is just not going to see how beneficial a 2018plan for us would be. My only counterpoint is that this team largely underachieved (last year) when we dropped the max free agent pursuit and gave our youth some vet presence. I ain't all about that...I want #17 asap.

Pointless? Or a thing of beauty debating degrees of just how blown up those mother bleepers are. BOOM goes the dynamite on the dynasty that never got out of the 2nd round with all their flopping and bad attitudes and truly dislikable players.

All I'm saying is they have players that can play and contribute and (potentially) a bunch of draft picks to make moves. While we have been struggling trying to move Deng without having to attach an Ingram to him, if we had more draft picks instead of a couple second rounders. Gruntled or not, they'll at least have that star and figure things out later, pal.

if not the 2018 plan what do we do? What trades do we make that make us better in the short and long term? What role player free agents could we target to get us into the playoffs at a reasonable cost?

We shoot for free agents this summer and if not, we still have 3-5 building blocks to develop. I just don't understand the 2018 plan hate when I haven't seen a single, realistic alternative that helps us compete now AND later.

i don't blame you for missing this in the sea of text, but my point is that the lakers seem to have no intentions of trading ingram, ball, or kuzma, much less all three. if they did, we'd probably have at least one star in the stable already. if someone's not available for trade, they're not a trade asset.

should have made trades for useful players instead of cap space. that's the argument. useful players can always be turned into cap space. the reverse isn't always true, as we (painfully) know.

So we agree that we need to move Deng and that we have no 1st round picks. Seems like the Lakers got rid of the decision makers that led to both those previous blemishes. So that's already a win for us...and those previous decision makers will not be at the table recruiting free agents this summer. That's another win for us and that's something the Clips will have a hard time with this summer IMHO.

So essentially you are right that the only avenue that the Clips have is via trade or the draft (with their potential picks via a DJ/Lou trade)....either way, they're going the route of disgruntled star player (via trade) to pair with who exactly if Lou/DJ are no longer there (exit via free agency or are trade fodder to bring in that disgruntled star)? And even if DJ/Lou are there, those dudes haven't really done anything recently next to stars (DJ w/CP3 & Blake, Lou w/Harden), so how would this disgruntled star feel about that? On the other hand, they can just hold onto these potential picks and rebuild, in which case they would be farther behind than us and what free agent would want to come join that (considering the Clip are even a free agent hotbed to begin with).

I don't need purp&gold glasses to see that the Clips are f***ed.

Btw, I was kinda hoping you would have used friend instead of pal...then we coulda had an epic riff.

@Khmrp Yeah its not ideal to field a stopgap roster of 1 year deals, but frankly, we've sucked while we developed youth...we sucked while developing youth and using cap for veterans...and we are continuing the sucking with stop gaps like BLo, KCP, Brewer....so as of now, I'm just fine to see how we do if you add stars to our youth (ie 2018plan). I was extremely patient with Mitch/Jimbo, so I can for sure do that with an FO that I actually like in Magic/Rob. I understand why other fans may not be, but my only argument is that we can't fault this FO for the failures of the previous one. They need time and clear canvas (shedding MozDeng) to really demonstrate their vision. Till then, its just cleaning up the mess that was left behind.

I would hate to strike out this summer, but if it happens, then you move on and learn from it. This current FO deserves at least that. I rather be at the table and strike out than be looking from the outside wondering, "what if". Some fans don't want to see it that way, and I'm fine with it. But just don't try to put the Clips ahead of us in anything...that franchise is the epitome of a doormat. They have done nothing, as of late, to prove otherwise (and I think Ballmer is obviously a huge upgrade for them).

the other recurrent issue is blaming previous failures on mitch and jim and not on the circumstance or plan. we'll never agree on that--until the new regime produces what the other one didn't. if that happens, i'll concede that the same plan executed by different people is no longer the same plan.

As long as they are expiring, at least Clarkson is the most available.

Randle will take more than just picks since we have his Restricted Rights.

To pair Lonzo with a player with the highest FG percentage in the league and provides rim protection? I know his FT's sucks, but his presence in the paint is still a big factor on both ends of the floor.

With Deng/Mozgov/Lopez getting $18-21M, DJ at $24-25M for a producer is not overpaying.

its an overpay, what deng/moz got is irrelevant, sucking for the past 4 yrs to sign a 30yr C with no range would be an epic fail n fyi dj is one of the worse C in the league defending PnR, you know the play that this team has been terrible at defending?
