At this point, I just question if the franchise and most of the fan base has the ability to really deal with the ups and downs of a young player. Trade the pick if we get it.

 

Yeah like Elgin's post below poses the question again. Look what happened when faced with more elite athleticism than what he has himself, or has been playing against. Not saying he's not going to be really good or better, but just like Russell and most other highly touted one and done college stars ..... there's going to be some major adjusting to do.

I'd probably rather play the odds. There are currently (1) Isaiah Thomas type players in the league, and there isn't one every year.

Some things translate at the pro levels, and some don't. Do you risk your career on that guy with anything other than a 2nd round pick? At a minimum, defense will be an issue due to size/length/strength.

i understand why teams would shy away from small players with really high picks, but in the late 1st, early 2nd...i'm not thinking about that anymore. height may relegate you to backup status in most cases, but a backup is better than a washout, which is the statistical likelihood at #28.

I trust the Lakers to make the right decision with their evaluation especially with how they've drafted over some random fan posing as a scout.

What's your take on the release point of his J? Low and off his left shoulder, when facing superior defenders in the NBA? Just asking as it's the main thing that sticks out as a negative to me. Still going to be a good offensive threat? How about the Dad? Can he be taken out so none of the evidence points back to Lakersball?

 

So if the kid is a bust will you hide or will you own up to it?

 

The point remains, this "i just know" attitude is incredibly insulting to the many knowledgeable posters here. A lot of members go out of their way not to make concrete, matter of fact statements, because the reality is that nobody knows for sure. Take note.

I'm not big on advanced stats but their usage rates are similar too.

Yes the 97-98 Lakers had better talent, thus detracting from Kobe's ability to use the ball more - but some of that is captured in USG rate. Again - not comparing the two just trying to demonstrate that D'lo had good numbers and that it's too soon to pass judgement.

 

Real leaders want the ball in their hands come crunch time. Great PG's want the ball in their hands so they can control the game.

DLO recommended we take the ball out of his hands and give it to Clarkson.

DLO doesn't desire to be a great PG. Nothing anyone can do will change what is not burning inside already.

I hope roster decisions are made with this in mind.

 

i think it's sort of hilarious that people are so sure ball is better than russell. i'm not even 100% sure fultz is better than russell, much less ball.
