I would not do this trade at all. I see that it moves figures and contracts around for next year, at the peril of disregarding the on-court performance and chemistry of the team.

Slotting in a disgruntled Jordan who has been declining on-court this season, an inactive Beverly and Wesley the non-magic Johnson so you have somebody to denegrate on gameday is not the answer.

I understand the impermanent nature of Lopez on this team, but value his effort and the dimension his three point shooting can add to this team. To inviscirate (partially) the team of scoring by also taking out Clarkson does us no favors.

If we want to look good for perspective freeagents, I think we have to only change the team for a strong move. I cannot see how this would not damage the team and lose momentum to a team that has made progress defensively and in terms of fluidity of play.

I would argue that Jordan with a lack of shooting, offers more minuses than positves. Lopez is what he is, less athletic and not at that all star level, but to use a basketball gametime analogy, I think an unecessary substitution when the team is making progress would be unconstructive and detrimental to our progress.

 

I'll roll with Real's deal, I think I've suggested something like that before. I would even remove protections on the pick if it will sweeten the deal.

No to Doc's trade though. That, at best, is a lateral move.

yep, so Marc can eat a fat one....Pau wasnt treated great but he also didnt earn his $ last 2yrs here, his drama cost us a possible 3pt n it not like mgmt didnt do their part helping Pau get his 2 rings, something Pau hasnt even come close again even with the Spurs

 

That's pretty harsh. Sure, Pau kinda cratered towards the end there, and it may have cost us a three-peat, but the man brought us two championships, including one against the C-Bags. Meanwhile, our front office treated him like absolute TRASH. Just another notch in the garbage belt that was Jim Buss' reign over the team. Who can blame the Gasol's for feeling that way.

There was more to it than that. In addition to the botched CP3 trade (which admittedly wasn't even Jim's/Mitch's fault), they left him twisting in the wind season after season as the trade deadlines approached.

They also let Pringles treat him like garbage. You'll recall that Pringles, who had never even coached a team to the finals and was lucky to get the Laker gig in the first place (an other great moment in Jim/Mitch history...) basically said that if Pau wanted to get the minutes he was seeking, he had to prove himself. This was after Pau took us to three straight finals and two championships. Way to go Pringles.

Then finally, after signing Kobe to the $50 million sweetheart deal, and when it was clear we couldn't contend for the next two years anyway, they low-balled him during contract negotiations. The cherry-on-top of the Jim/Mitch sundae (at least up to that point and before the MozDeng debacle) was when they let Pau walk for nothing, after making the same mistake with Coward.

Some of these mistakes are justifiable, but overall, Pau was right to feel like the Lakers FO treated him like crap towards the end there, or at least in a manner that was not commensurate with the success he helped bring us. If you play a key role in winning two rings, including a game 7 win over the green turds, you should never feel like a persona non grata in Lakerland.

 

I thought Jim/Mitch offered Pau a 2 year max deal (or close to that) but he thankfully decided to go to a bette team. No?

 

Not quite. The Lakers offered him two years, $22 mil. He ended up going to the Bulls for less money per year (3 years, $22 mil). Pau didn't get what he was asking for, from the Lakers, felt insulted, and decided to go play for a team that needed him more.
