True. It's "only" semantics - the meaning of the words.

i'm not sure i agree it's semantics. we'll revisit in one year. if paul george and lebron are here, this will all look like genius in action. if not, well...

I would have loved George Hill here next year, but if it's giving a 31 year old, injury prone guard almost $20M per year for 3 years or having the self-imposed 1 year limit, give me the limit 100 times out of 100.

i've said already that i understand the risk with that one. although i do wonder whether a 2-year deal might have swayed him. i mean, he went to sacramento. that's like signing up to punch yourself in the nuts daily for three years.

    Exactly.

Anything else and we're moving away from championships and moving towards mediocrity.

We have to be disciplined and swing for the fences next season, because nothing else will compete with GSW in the west.

this is another hurdle Deng uselessness and his contract has caused this team....w/o his contract mgmt. could've been more open to doing 1 multi year high lvl deal like Dung's deal

i just think that ultimately the 1 year limit is smart in this free agent class. Even if we miss out on Paul George (and Lebron, though I'm not high on that route), I still think we made the right decision. We need to see which 1 of our young guys look like they'll pan out before throwing big money at positions that we may be set on for the future.

it's frustrating watching players go left and right while we've done nothing, but there was nothing we could have done this offseason without sacrificing our future.

A bit of it yes, but we've still got quite a lot of prospects besides D'Angelo. Lonzo, Ingram, and Zubac are the names the front office has pegged and that doesn't include or long cast of 25 and younger guys: Randle, Clarkson, Nance, Nwaba, Hart, Bryant, and Kuzma. Yeesh we're a young team.

I was as big of a supporter of DLo has anyone. his jersey is the only sports jersey that I've purchased in the last 15 years. When i first heard about the trade, I was ticked off. But as talented as I think he is, I've always questioned his head and his heart. I made excuses because i WANTED him to be great. At this point, I'm cool with taking the cap space next year and seeing how Lopez fits here. I don't think it's a question as to which player will have a great impact on W/L total. I think you'll see a better DLo this year in Brooklyn, but he needed this as a wake up call.

Like wallangong said: I'm not sure it matters that much punting this summer. There were only a few names I would have added for more than a year this summer and those names weren't interested in us (Hayward being the only obvious one) when they had better options elsewhere. It would have been great to get George Hill on a one-year deal, but otherwise what are we truly missing out on here? Rudy Gay off an Achilles? Dion Waiters? Kelly Olynyk? Tim Hardaway Jr.?

There's gotta be a way we can dump Brewer. KCP for a one-year contract at whatever he maxes out at would be perfect.

I'm with realdeal though. Who have we really missed out on? I know the "cap space" plan has been tried before, and we have failed time and time again. But even if I knew the plan had a 10% chance of working, I'd still rather punt on everyone that's available this offseason. Other than Hayward, no one is worth tying up long-term money with.

    LBJ's agency.

bid on noel, kcp. george hill. there were chances to improve is the point.

the other thing folks are ignoring, imo, is that the young guys are being set up for failure right off the bat. this was a problem in the previous regime, and it's definitely continuing. we brought in a coach who wants ball movement, player movement, and shooting. we brought in a pg who can't create his own offense but fits that philosophy. then we surrounded him with guys who defenses ignore off the ball.

i'd argue that the reason russell didn't live up to pejoratively invoked sports science piece is that it's hard to be a passing wizard when nobody can score. ball's now facing that same issue. are we going to be disappointed and have to attach him to deng for a dump next year?

It's an agency, LeBron's agency actually. I guess what he's saying is if they give us the KCP deal this summer, then LeBron is more likely to come?

Ball's vision is so blatantly superior to Russell's that it's an invalid comparison. Again, I'm a huge Russ fan, but he could mostly just pull off some flashy passes. He wasn't a step or 2 ahead of everyone else on the court the way Ball is. Have you watched his passing highlights? A lot of simple passes, but he sees them before even the receiving teammate knows he'll be open. It's not even close.
