What if we don't get PG or Westbrook, or LBJ in 2018?

Build around Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. Re-sign Julius and Brook with remaining cap room.

We do what we've been doing for the last few years, kick the can another year and live in the Stone Age while other teams are building and trading to get better while we are left signing cap space every year that nets us 0 wins.

    Depends on Randle/Zu.

Derrick Favors and Demarcus Cousins will be FAs.

    Ball
    ?
    Ingram
    Randle/Favors
    Cousins

    OR

    Ball
    ?
    Ingram
    Cousins
    Lopez

Always a possibility of a S&T for Randle if we dont extend. Hart has a chance. If not you package whatever on the bench, like Clark, maybe even Zu to get a solid SG.
Stretch Deng if you cant trade and try to get Avery Bradley or something.

Next year is a make or break year unless our young core dramatically improve to super star status

unless ball and either ingram/zubac turn into stars within the next few years and this organization FINALLY starts to emphasize defense, the lakers won't be contending for a title anytime soon

this is assuming we don't land PG, RW, or LLLLLebron next fall

Avery Bradley,Cousins would be not a bad fall back option..especially if Ball,Randle and Ingram emerge.

The people posting that we'll suck for a decade or that we'll continue with this flawed plan or correct so antagonizing them doesn't really make sense. If we fail to get George for whatever reason, then yes we're going to continue to slog through the worst years in LA Lakers history.

It's all about whether or not you have faith that Rob and Magic have back channeled this thing into existence. I think the Lakers are 100% confident they have and right now, I'm okay with that. If OKC gets off to a 25-3 start, I'll start to get nervous but otherwise I'm fine.

Did any of you expect anything different is my question? Did anyone who is unhappy with the plan expect the Lakers to make runs this summer? I'm not asking flippantly, I'm serious: what about this summer has been so bad that you've become pessimistic? Is it just that this plan is so much like the old one? Was it the Russell trade? FAs using us as leverage?

I think not going after the big guys this year means something is for sure going down next year.

Lebron, George and Westbrook aren't the only 3 free agents in 2018.

    FYI.

How bout we let Magic & Rob swing the bat one time before we label them busts. I really don't get why people want to saddle them with Jim & Mitch's baggage. They may strike out, but they might go yard twice next off season.

They're the only three I think could genuinely save us from either being terrible or (even worse) being mediocre.

Those 3 are a temporary fix. Only our kids are going to save us long-term.

For me it was trading DLO. I get that we needed to, but I felt the timing was off and that we sold low. I also don't like how we're putting all our eggs into the "2018 basket". Yea we still have Ball and Ingram if we strike out on FAs next year, but unless they both make Greek Freak like improvement in their games. This is going to be an extended time in mediocrity.

Laker's FO sticking to the stated plan. I can go with that for now & try to enjoy watching Ingram & Ball develop & see if any of Randle, Zu, Clarkson or Nance take that next step.

There will be a lot of Big Name Free Agents next year that now have a full year's notice that the Lakers are looking to give 2 All Stars Max Contracts next Summer to come take over the Team.
I'm saying there is almost Zero chance that we don't get two solid additions to this team next year.
    I'm looking forward to it.

It's more about these latest 4 years than just these first 5 days of FA .

The new plan is the same as the old ones and we are/have been not clever at all about these 1 year rentals though ... Old washed up "names" who aren't NBA caliber players anymore instead of D league bets ... like the Heat for example .

Overall we are FAR behind the current type of play of the league and the type of player it requires ... no shooting , no versatility ...

Another terrible season on the way during which we will probably give a great pick to our ECF enemy ...
