I'd actually really like this for atlanta, no clue why Orlando would do it though

Right now I'm all in on Thibs. That move alone moves the needle in a great way for us. You aren't just gonna dump Thibs like a Brown, MDA, Scott type coach, so it could set a nice example for free agent meetings when they are looking for stability and direction moving forward.

I'd be fine with Walton or Thibodeau. One gives us gravitas and the other gives us at least the appearance of a vision.

    Byron Scott gives us nothing.

Go after Tobias for Roy and a second round draft pick plus Anthony Brown?

We need to be calling Orlando about Tobias Harris. He's exactly the player we need and this is the perfect buy low window for him. He was the player I wanted last summer, and I was pining for us to go after him. If he's available...you need to be on the phone with Orlando ASAP. I'm not sure what Orlando would want...but obviously Roy's expiring K would be a start...and then we'd have to probably offer a 2nd round pick plus one of our young guys...I'm thinking either Anthony Brown or Larry Nance would have to be included. I'm OK with that...I like Nance a lot but we already have Randle and he's ballin' as a starter....I don't want Scott to have an excuse to bench Randle right now when his confidence is beaming right now.

I like Teague, and he would improve the talent of this team and maybe help in getting other FA's here. But he's not what this team needs right now, not with Russell and Clarkson in the fold. Their development should take precedence. I think the only way I take teague is if it's Lou Williams plus Anthony Brown for Teague. Then, at least we will have replaced Lou with someone far better, and Teague/Russell/Clarkson can rotate...and at the very least, we can always trade Teague....and if we want, we can now afford to trade Russell and Clarkson if a big time player becomes available (Demarcus Cousins), and then fill the wing spots via free agency.

I wouldn't trade one of our main 3 youngins for Teague and I think our FO would think the same way ... so this is where "obtainable" stops for us.

We won't get Teague for Young + fillers or for Lou ....

lakers can't make any impactful trade without parting with the guys we like (randle, Russell, Clarkson, nance). I threw nance in there because he *may* have some value if the lakers were willing to take on big salary in return. for example, if the lakers wanted rudy gay, nance/hibbert probably does the trick. I'm guessing the lakers don't want this.

I'd have to see the package first before denying the trade. I'm not sure what the FO is thinking anymore regarding trading the younger players.

The main argument against Teague that you guys missed is: getting Teague makes us a better team. We might not win a lot more games, but we'd probably win enough to lose that pick for sure. Is the FO comfortable not tanking the rest of the way?

I don't think you'll see any moves that move the needle for us in a big way this year, IMO. You might see a small move: for example, the year Steve Blake was traded for Kent Bazemore and Marshon Brooks; outside of that, I don't see anything major on the horizon.

This was another great trade from Mitch. Bazemore is a good player now, who would have likely stayed with us but got a nice pay day in ATL instead.

Agreed. Too much at stake to go get a big name now. They've dedicated this season to tanking. Unless there's an All-Star available for Roy Hibbert, we're just not going to do much.

The only caveat is if we traded for a guy who is hurt and waived his physical (for example a guy like Marc Gasol although that would never happen it's just an example).

We're going to strike out. In the past, I would have bet on the Mitch Kupchak jedi mindtrick special, but things have just been so terrible that even I can't convince myself to entertain that notion.

i generally agree, but he's at the level that gets me contemplating. there's a chance that clarkson never becomes as good as teague is right now, so i start considering. but teague plays pg, which is an issue.

I wish we would have kept Bazemore. He developed a 3 point shot in Atlanta and has developed nicely. FWIW, he's an FA this summer...

I understand your sentiment man. But stay positive. We do have a lot of things going for us this summer that we haven't had the past few summers:

-No Kobe: We all love the Mamba, but throughout the course of his career it's been discussed that he isn't exactly the easiest guy to play with due to his style of play (fair or not). This summer, free agents can finally look at the Lakers without this dilemma hovering over our pitch.

-2 Max Slots: In the past, we've been trying to hit home runs with one slot available, indirectly asking Big Time Free Agents to SAVE our franchise. Now, we can sell free agents on teaming up together, so the task of getting a ring doesn't seem as daunting.

-No Jim Buss: He hasn't been let go yet, but if the rumors are true, this could be significant. Letting Jim go would erase some of the perception that Lakers ownership consists of a bunch of spoiled children battling over their father's empire, because it would establish Jeanie as the one true leader of the franchise.

By no means am I guaranteeing you that we won't strike out again this summer. But, there's greater hope than in seasons past. And at the very least, we have some promising young talent that work hard and show good character.

I agree. A Clarkson/Young/Bass for Teague deal is something I at least consider. Dump Young and his contract while getting a relatively young, All-Star caliber player? It's something worth thinking about. I love Clarkson, but I have to take that phone call.
