I just can't see it happening. Pipe dream territory. It'd be interesting though...when was the last time a clear elite 1-2 punch both left for a different (same) team.

Stephen A did predict the Heat's big three joining forces. There is no way Durant or Westbrook would wanna play for Byron so he'd have to go. OKC wouldn't let both walk for nothing no way, but if we keep pick we have assets to offer for both of them. I'm pretty sure Westbrook would want out if KD leaves and I'm pretty sure an offer of Randle, Clarkson, and Simmons would get it done. It's a lot to give up for a guy who's gonna be a free agent and the Lakers will have to ask themselves if these guys both really wanna be Lakers they'll come. Miami is gonna lose Whiteside probably to us do you really wanna re-sign there if you're either of those two guys. I mean think about how stacked albeit very young this team would be if you end up getting both without giving up any significant assets.

    Russell/
    Westbrook/Clarkson
    Durant/Brown
    Simmons or Ingram/Randle
    Whiteside/Black

That's pretty insane if they can pull it off.

Obviously a lot needs to happen before now and then. D'Angelo needs to be inserted into the starting lineup again which surprisingly Byron said he's gonna do after the All Star Break. Randle is so much better as a starter as we know. Clarkson has been relatively consistent all season long. If the kids play well which they should and they have when they've gotten the opportunity together. You hire the right coach maybe some like Brooks or even if you can convince someone like Kevin Ollie to make the jump. He played with KD and Westbrook so there is mutual respect there. You go to KD and say we've got these talented young kids and with your leadership you can guide them to greatness and we'll have another max slot for you to have anybody of your choice. Then of course his buddy is an impending free agent in 2017. We know he loves Kobe and it sounds like he would wanna be that guy to lead the franchise with Kobe riding off into the sunset.

I wouldn't give up that much though. Remember you're talking about a guy who could walk at the end of the season. We should have learned our lesson from the Dwight fiasco. The Lakers will not move a large package of their young players like that. One player? Maybe. One of our young core might be on the block and one of our veterans.

For instance, this summer if Durant signed here I could see the Lakers then immediately offering #2/Young/Williams for Westbrook but leave it at that. They're not going to give up Randle or Russell when there's a good chance they can just sign Westbrook in the summer.

Still, the Lakers need to make big strides to even get Durant's attention. As of today, if I were him I'd prefer New York, Oklahoma City, or Washington.

Me, along with NBA fans across the globe, laughed at him when he said it. When it happened a week later, I vowed to never question Stephen A on any rumor or prediction again. The guy has connections with NBA players that other journalist can only dream of.

Yeah but you're completely discounting the charisma of Boron sitting across the table from him in the FA meeting.

If it plays this way, I hope we don't have another tank year ahead playing the waiting game.

    So...

    Coach: Luke Walton
    PG: Westbrook
    SG: Russel
    SF: Durant
    PF: Randle
C: Who gives a crap we are winning it all!

I can get behind this, even though I think Westbrook has like 3 years left in him, before he goes all Rose on us...

I don't see that at all. With Westbrook's improved jumpshot and his post game which is amongst the best among point guards. He's not just a guy who relies on athlete ability. He's got great skill as well.

I'm not sure there is any way around it. We would need two max slots in 2017, so we couldn't sign much of anyone this offseason. Clarkson to his second contract, and maybe...I honestly don't know. We need help at center, but who is honestly available? Maybe we ship Lou Williams and Julius Randle out for someone if we get the 1st overall pick and draft Simmons. Or we ship out the pick and Lou for a center? But I'm looking and I don't see anyone worth the #2 or 3 pick plus Lou that we would realistically get. Maybe we say screw it if we get the first pick and play Simmons/Randle at the 4/5 (interchangeably). But if we think we can get Westbrook and Durant in 2017, we aren't signing ANYONE this offseason. We are trading to get a big expiring like Hibbert or Lin last season and the 2016/2-17 will be spent further developing Randle, Russell, Clarkson and hopefully Simmons.

He does. He also attacks relentlessly, which is rarely a recipe for longevity.

So he attacks that doesn't mean he isn't gonna have longevity.

He's got a great mid range game, good handles, he can take guys down into the post, he's a much improved passer and play maker, can pull up, and is excellent with either hand. This notion that because he attacks a lot means he'll be another D-Rose is ridiculous. Look at someone like D-Wade. He was a guy who attacked the basket a lot and everyone thought he'd be done by now and he's still a highly effective player. He doesn't blow by people anymore, but he posts, he moves without the ball, and has a terrific in between game just like Russ. Even if he only had 4-5 years left that's still 4-5 years of having a legit superstar on the roster. A guy you can build the team around.

I'd always watch out for a smaller guy who attacks with reckless abandon. Dwyane Wade has had some longevity - about 30,000 minutes played. He has, however missed 20+ games numerous times in his career. Six times in 13 seasons, I think. That's the fear with Westbrook.

Aren't max contacts like four years anyway? It's not like we're giving him a six year deal like they used to get so it shouldn't be a problem:

For what it's worth, I'd not be worried in the least about Westbrook's health.

I'm not worried about Westbrook either. If we gave him a max, barring a catastrophic injury, which can happen to anyone, he will still be prime throughout a max deal. The problem will be having a team ready to go when they arrive in a year and a half. Durant and Westbrook aren't going to want to come here with this team.

At the same time, we better have a guarantee that those two are coming through back channels if we are going to waste ANOTHER year. I mean, whAt if we get the #1 pick. At that point we have two am amazing prospects playing the same positions as the two in question.

I think if those guys have the leverage to leave, we would sign who we could this offseason and be poised for a sign and trade in 2017. Hope that doesn't happen though. I think it will be tough to pull off.

It may be a pipe dream, but Durant is one player I am holding out hope for. Hope, it's all we have left for now, that and possibly keeping that pick.
So slightly off topic, what's going on with the Lakers that SAS knows about? Now I'm curious.
