There are some big differences - he doesn't defend, is turning it over 4+ times a game, fouling 4+ times a game, and in his best month of the season, he's posting an ORtg like Shaq's average season. I think he's a very good player, but I worry that he's such a high usage player and doesn't defend.

If we land a big FA or 2 this summer, be prepared for the narrative: "see, now that Kobe's gone, players actually want to play in LA."

For sure, but I'll take that garbage if we are lucky enough to get one or more of the major FA's. Comes with the territory as a Laker fan.

As long as we start competing again, I could give two piles what anyone says.

I want playoffs, and I want them next season.

Steve Kyler says the Lakers have everything Whiteside wants in FA. If Miami hesitates, the Lakers seem to be a very logical landing spot.

    Here is Harrison Faigen's take.

I really hope the Lakers don't want him. He scares me, and I honestly believe he would end up an albatross for 4 seasons. He makes me think of Erick Dampier. Had a great season in a contract year and just stopped trying, got fat, etc. I'd feel more comfortable if he would have shown progress year after year, but the dude shows up out of nowhere at age 25, plays out of his mind for a season and a half, and now he gets handed 50 million. He has a history of being a complete and utter knucklehead, motivation issues, etc. This seems like a great way to waste 25% of our cap space. And I really don't want to hear the argument, "We have to sign somebody!" Yes we do, and I am willing to overpay for guys, just not this guy. Not to mention I question his actual impact on games. Dude has Dragic, Wade and Bosh playing along side him and the Heat aren't winning that many games. He's on the bench at the end of a lot of games too.

Two teams I came up with. Both assume we lose our pick but trade Nick for something - like a 2nd rounder to fill out the roster.

    Russell/Clarkson
    DeRozan/Williams
    Deng/Brown
    Horford/Randle/Nance
    Mahinmi/Sacre
    --Less top end, greater depth.

    Russell/Lin
    Clarkson/Williams
    Durant/Brown
    Horford/Randle/Nance
    Mahinmi/Black/Sacre
    --Less depth, but Durant.

I THINK either team could make the playoffs. I'm not so sure we get Horford without KD (and vice versa), but it's a good team either way.

I'm beginning to suspect someone spends big on Mahinmi...

Either way I like both teams and they're both within the realm of possibility albeit on different sides of the spectrum. My "realistic dream" at this point is something like:

    Russell/Clarkson
    Derozan/Williams
    Deng/Brandon Rush/A. Brown
    Randle/Nance Jr.
    Whiteside/Noah/Black

Mostly young guys with a couple of veterans to glue things together. Maybe grab one more decent PG type like Brooks or Hinrich for when Deng gets hurt and we have to slide guys around.

There's tons of rumors that Jeff Teague is readily available in trades. Former All-Star. Not having a great year this year, but not playing very many minutes either.

The threat of Al Horford leaving is also driving rumors of his availability. There's some rumors that the C Bags would make a move for him by trading some of their pieces to ATL and consolidating talent.

If they're hitting the reset button, does that mean Paul Milsap is available too? What about Korver?

I was figuring 8-10 for Mahinmi.

That's a great team if we can swing it.

I think moving Teague alone can "fix" them. A young all star PG who's under contract next season is very enticing. Everyone knew the Hawks were going to have to pick between Dennis and Teague, neither want to be backups and have been vocal about that.

I don't think they look to move much else outside of Teague. They have to fill the void Carroll left, that's the biggest difference between this year's team and last year's. Bazemore has been playing great, but has a completely different skill set. If they can address that hole and get multiple players back, which Teague should net, they'll be ok.

Korver hasn't really been right since his injury at the end of last season. Definitely not the same guy who was on a record setting pace last season. I think Splitter won't truly show his value until the playoffs when the game slows down and there are more bigs for him to body up against.

As far as trade partners, Phil is reportedly interested but I don't see much in terms of assets from NYC. not unless he can work a 3 team deal.

I've heard of Phil's interest. I've also heard they'd want to maybe attach Splitter to Teague and take back a bigger contract. A lot of things at play there.

I'd like Teague over here although we're doing pretty well with guards right now. He's a good player.

I'm of the opinion we should have kept Lin to begin with. If we had a more capable head coach and one Lin got along with, he's probably still in a Lakers uniform outplaying his contract. But whatever. I didn't shed no tears when he left...

Lin ran pick and roll too well. Apparently that is taboo in the NBA and he failed to learn the other 80% of the mysterious Byron playbook that has led him to one of the worst coaching records in NBA history.

This is hilarious. Even the media knows you don't trade for a free agent you want to keep going forward and have him around B0ron for any length of time, influencing his decision to stay or go.
