Bulls are/were looking to move Gasol. Someone else on this site mentioned it as a possibility. That could be a domino.

I'd take Mahinmi, he's been good this season but I think he plays a part in Indiana's long term plan. Why they were comfortable with letting Hibbert go for nothing.

Why were they comfortable with letting Hibbert go this season? I am guessing you have seen him play this season; if you have, you can probably deduce why they let him go for a mere second round draft pick.

I pass on both scola and mahinmi. scola because I'm not sure he's a big net gain over bass, he'd take minutes from youngsters, and he can't play the 5.

mahinmi because he's simply not very good. I think given similar opportunities, black can do what mahinmi does. both are backups.

To go off of this I would not hesitate for a second if we were trying to bring Whiteside on a team led by veteran leaders like Kobe, Odom, and Gasol. But he would be coming onto a team where Lou Williams and maybe Bass (if he picks up his option which I doubt he will) would be the oldest players. I fear that even with the tremendous talent and defense he would bring we're just not setup yet to bring in such a question mark with his maturity.

You could argue then what are we doing with Upshaw, but I see Whiteside and Upshaw differently as far as there problems are concerned.

Except Whiteside is 100x the player Upshaw is. I'd be very irked if we pass on a guy that talented and productive. If we have to get some more veteran leadership then so be it. We need to anyway with such a young team.

I agree completely that Whiteside is better. I was just saying that I'm more concerned about Whiteside's issues than Upshaw. Whether its accurate or not is debatable but that's my feelings opinion today. You're right too about talent, we need it in the worst way

Nice, hope this is true. I like the dude, he's been a total pro here, but I'd like to see us go in a different direction. If you can get any talent for him at all it might be worth it. Would be good for him as well if it's a playoff team, no one can enjoy playing on this current Lakers squad except maybe the youth. But he added:

He also responded to questions about trading Hibbert for Mosgov (doesn't work) or Noah (does work, he's injured but Lakers get his bird rights). Also commented on if Lou is our best trade chip, said he was told we want him around long-term, but would listen to offers he's involved in, not actively seeking to trade him.

We desperately need more talent guys. I'm sick of seeing scrubs like Sacre, Kelly, and Huertas on the court. Good teams don't have talentless bums like that as much as we do. Too many one dimensional players. Need some defensive guys. Some shooters. I like the athleticism of this team, but we could use more. Need more balance on both units.

I'm hoping for something like this realistically speaking next season.

    Russell/Clarkson
    Lee/Lou
    Batum or DeRozan/Brown
    Randle/Nance Jr.
    Whiteside/Black

I like that team. You have two legit three and D players if you have Batum and Lee although the latter' three point shot hasn't been great this season. Still for his career Lee is a decent shooter. If you have DeMar you have someone who can beat their man off the dribble and run the wing and catch lobs on the break from Russ. Whiteside obviously has his issues, but he's a great shot blocker, rim protector, and much more of a threat offensively than Hibbert.

Well, they have Whiteside in check with Spolstra at the helm, and vets like Bosh and Wade to keep him in line,

If he comes here, you're going to need a very psychological coach that can make sure Hassan doesn't pull an Andrew Bynum. Kobe's gone, and I have zero confidence if Byron is still here that he'll get his attention.

Bynum went through the same thing, but we had Phil, Kobe, Pau and Lamar all going for him. Then things fell apart and so did he.

That's my fear with getting a guy like Hassan if we don't have the right personalities in place.

I had brought up Mahinmi earlier and someone (@lakerfan2 ?) posted some stats on him. He's definitely someone I'm interested in. He's flying a bit under the radar and with Myles Turner over there it might be the kind of guy we could throw a chunk of money at and steal from Indiana while still saving money compared to what a guy like Ezeli might go for.

Mahinmi is the kind of competent player flying under the radar the Spurs would snag and make a key piece for five years.

Considering the Spurs drafted Mahinmi and played in their system, it would make sense for him.
