2016 Official Lakers Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread!

"The first part is that Horns breakdown drill that I was posting about earlier. Breakdown drills are how you implement an offense. Instead of running the whole thing, you run portions of it with (usually) 2-3 guys. Here, they've split the court in half and are running Horns action on each side. This is good management because you get twice as many reps for every player. 6 on the court at all times, so if you're running it on both ends that's 12 and the whole team has one rep on, one rep off. Lots of reps for each guy.

As far as the drill goes, you've got one guy up top, one guy at an elbow, and another guy in the corner. Since they've split the court in half, they're working on the different options if the guard made an entry pass to the elbow & made a strong side cut. Then they worked on the guard sealing in the post after making that cut. Livingston did this a lot for GSW, and I'd expect Russell to do the same.

Then they worked on the guard setting up his man on Side PnR, & the other guard maintaining proper spacing for a kickout off of that.

Then they had the bigs setting down screens in the corner, going back to the elbow to catch & entry pass, and then using a reverse pivot to attack the basket. More Horns stuff."

Peace should be categorized as that, too. He's awful at this stage in his career. Brown is cheap. Give him 1 more shot, and if it doesn't work out, cut him next season.

 

Well we'll see. The players will know pretty much who's earned the last spot if there is one being contested, but financial considerations too. Still Luke and staff have to build credibility with their actions and no BS ing to the players. Make it honest competition if they say they are going to do that.

Maybe at that point they make him a great offer to work on the coaching staff too. He's such great fun these days to listen to and have the kids be exposed to one of the old school truly tough guys who knows how to more constructively "channel" it now.
