My problem with the Noah comparisons for Towns is that Noah probably has the best motor in the NBA. He had the same passion and energy in college. To me Towns looks like a deer who's learning to walk. His physical movements remind me more of Bynum, not necessarily his game. Noah's shot is awkward, but his movements never looked that laggy.

Yeah I mean it's not a perfect comparison, but I'm really talking about the passing ability and the physicality. I can't think of a perfect fit for Towns outside of Noah. I just don't see Bynum unless he lands in LA or NY. I really don't. If he lands in Orlando, Minnesota, Philadelphia, etc. I see a guy with wasted potential.

^^ Yeah, Noah was always athletic - makes sense as his dad was a pro tennis player. Towns isn't very fluid or athletic. But he is big and has more upside to his game IMO than Noah. They are pretty different to me. I see more the Bynum comparisons - and they are both good and bad in that respect.

@therealdeal that's the thing with several of these guys in the lotto, their potential is very fit based...more so than in recent years.

I think Towns, Johnson, Winslow, WCS, and Frank all have to go to specific teams to reach their potential (especially Towns, Winslow, and Frank). That's 5 of my top 10 players.

Although all this speculation is fun, I'd seriously pay like $50 to know where we land in this draft.

A 5th pick would be nerve-racking come draft night.

And with the 5th pick the Lakers select Frank Kaminsky out of Wisconsin...

Towns is very athletic, just not very coordinated which is the biggest problem I have with him. Almost all of his leaping comes at the expense of his connective knee tissue. He doesn't bend his knees to jump or land. He lands on one foot too much. He uses his upper body to create space/gain position in the post. He has a very (proportionally) weak core and lower body. It's not that he's unathletic, it's that he is so undeveloped. Not uncommon for a 19 year old, but certainly a problem.

I don't even know if it's more than recent years or because we're finally paying attention to the draft so closely? I don't know.

Either way I agree. The three I think will make the NBA and do just fine no matter where they go are Okafor, Johnson, and Mudiay. They'll be NBA players with good ceilings regardless of landing spot. Towns, Winslow, and Russell need to right spot and the right tutelage. We'll see what happens.

LOL, guy had one stretch and now he's even being considered for the draft

Peyton Siva had an amazing run and still wasn't even drafted first round. Miami fell for the Napier Koo-laid last year too.

Miami went with Napier or actually traded for him because Lebron loved his game while watching the tournament; Riley went out and got Napier for that reason only, and if circumstances were different, I don't think would have had an interest.

Allen is at best a 2nd rounder right now. He would do well to stay and come out next season in a weaker class.

cute use of the quotes on slow release, but it's slow. and it matters. I'm just glad there's no way he's going to be a laker.

comparing him to pau gasol is a joke. the difference in post game from when pau was 3 years younger is simply gigantic. what's the wingspan difference there, btw? looks significant. again, it matters.

invoking Duncan makes me want to just stop posting on this forum.

I'm dug in on kaminsky: back up at best...if he's lucky and finds the right spot.

as for proving anything against Kentucky, I remember him being largely awkward and ineffective in isolation against them (and against okafor and even Richard Ashley). he got his by getting the ball on the move, getting a kind whistle, or getting a mismatch against a smaller player.

I think everyone's pulling for him like they were for adam Morrison or McDermott. and not just the white guy thing. there's a powerful narrative about skill versus athleticism that appeals to a lot of fans (especially big ncaa fans, I've found). I just don't see it played out at the highest level. anyone saying Duncan wasn't an outstanding athlete when he came in doesn't understand athleticism. such a strong base--still has it, too. nobody moves that guy. rondae hollis Jefferson moved kaminsky. the fat kid from Xavier was more devastating to Arizona this year than kaminsky.

if some team wants to take him at 10 or below, I get it. draft's becoming a crapshoot at that point, and he's big and moderately skilled. but where the lakers would be picking? just not relevant to the conversation, and disastrous if so.
