Suns receive the Lakers 2015 first-round pick. (top 5 in 2015, top 3 in 2016 and 2017, unprotected 2018) via nbadraft.net ...... Can someone explain this to me? If Lakers get to keep their pick do the Suns get the next year guaranteed?

    it's exactly like it reads:

If we go to the lottery and end up with a pick in the top 5 THIS summer, we keep the pick. If we end up with #6 or lower, the Suns get the pick.

Assuming we kept the pick in 2015, then in 2016 if we end up with a top 3 pick, we keep that pick. If the pick is #4 or later, then the Suns get the pick. Same for 2017.

If the Suns haven't gotten the pick by 2018, then they get it no matter what.

Towns had the ball on the block when the defense was focused on him and found a shooter in the corner...he has the ability to pass out of a double early in his career and recognize where the shooter is...

I couldn't make out who I was watching, thanks.

I like Towns. He's more mobile than Okafor and I think he might have a higher ceiling, but he's also really unpolished offensively by comparison. Okafor might not be the greatest athlete, but the guy will score in the post at the NBA level. Great footwork. Towns looks like he could be very good, but certainly more of a project.

In my ideal world, the guy that would be a great fit next to Randle for the next 10 years would have Chris Bosh's skill-set. Great back to the basket game, can pop out and shoot all the way to the 3, great PNR defender, and does a decent job protecting the rim. If I can't have that, then give me somebody who is an actual center, who can bang with the other 7'footers, protect the rim, rebound well, and finish around the basket and shoot FT's efficiently.

Chris Bosh is a pretty unique fit though. He's very mobile for his size and gives full effort defensively and has a solid stroke from outside. You're going to have a hard time finding anyone who fits a "Chris Bosh" type besides the man himself.

I think an ideal fit next to Randle is a mobile big man that blocks shots and rebounds well. Barring that, a low post presence with good hands.

Getting that guy through the draft would be great, but honestly we have so many needs I'm starting not to care who we get with that pick. There's a couple of solid wings (Stanley Johnson and Justise Winslow), there's a couple solid bigs (Okafor and Towns), and Mudiay looks like a potential stud PG.

Getting ANY of those guys this summer in the draft would be a great find, then fill in the rest with available free agents. How about a combination of-

Draft Johnson or Winslow and Andrew Harrison (?) with later pick
    Sign Goran Dragic- 4/44
    Sign Robin Lopez- 3/21
    Sign Ed Davis- 3/15
Minimum deals to fill out (Clarkson and Sacre)

    Dragic/Harrison/??
    Bryant/Clarkson
    Winslow/Young
    Randle/Kelly
    Lopez/Davis

Better, right? If we get that Top 5 pick we're going to be in a good position to bounce back quickly.

Yes, I like it. We need talent and any combination you could get that will include Guard/Center, that will help immediately. A future lock-down defender at the SF wouldn't hurt. The key is getting that top 5 pick. That would expedite the rebuild, gives us another player on a rookie contract to pair with Randle, and set us up for the foreseeable future. Given the cost controlled salaries on rookie scaled contracts, it would give us more flexibility going after impact FA's.

The roster you constructed is what I would love, though...it gives us a top 10 PG, a solid backup PG, youth, size, potential, and excitement. We could be competitive every night and watch a team like that grow even after Kobe retires...then you go after a guy like KD who might be more intrigued to join a young and upcoming roster that needs his transcendent talent to take that team to the next level.

Precisely. Getting the pick would be a great thing for us. I'm already kind of looking forward to it even if I know it's not guaranteed. There's plenty of very solid combinations we could come up with. Even ones where we don't get a guy like Dragic and try to swing for the fences. We could pick up:

    Rondo/Winslow/Ed Davis
    Dragic/Okafor/Wes Mathews
    Mudiay/Monroe/Wes Mathews
    Dragic/Monroe/Winslow

Stuff like that really makes me hope we get that pick. We won't be great, but we could be so much better than we are now.

From what I have seen so far (2 Kentucky games) Towns really impresses me more so than Okafor who I have seen just 1 of his games. Towns has the defense that I think some folks dont think hes got. He has the BBall IQ to make the right plans out of traps and double teams and is great as a help defender. Towns also has the better outside game than Okafor and can shoot FTs better. Both players will be high picks but from the scouting videos I've seen on Youtube and the games I have watched, so far give me Towns for sure.

Yeah I'm sorry, but I just disagree. Okafor is a rock solid Center. He's a throw-back, post up, kind of Center and I love it. If we had the #1 pick I take Okafor and I don't look back. For me it's easy right now:

    1. Okafor
    2. Mudiay
    3. Towns
    4. Everyone else (starting with either Winslow or Stanley Johnson though)

Not big on Oubre, but he could be a good add too.

I would rank it exactly the same as therealdeal at this point. Towns is making things interesting, but I still think Okafor is the pick if we are in the top 2.

Oubre is getting much PT right now which is a surprise to me. Don't know what he has done to get in Bill Self's doghouse, but I expect to see more of him as the season continues. Word is he struggling to make the adjustment to the college game and frustration is setting in. He has a lot of talent so I expect him to figure things out.
