    I guess we're drafting a 2nd Cook next year.

EDIT: or rather, this year. forgot he's a senior.

Loving what I'm hearing from Quinn on Okafor though. I'm starting to sense a pattern here...

The more I read/other players/coaches comments on Okafor, the more I want him. And I'm a Towns guy. All indications are he's literally dying to become a Laker and fall to 2. I can certainly get on board with that. He fits in with the movement we have going on right now with the young guys.

I would be pretty bummed if we took Russell over Okafor.

I wouldn't expect that happening. Pincus is around the team all the time and has a very good feel as to who they would select...he's said Okafor the entire time, and I tend to put more stock into him than anybody else.

I wouldn't have done Embiid+3rd even if he was healthy.

    No thanks.

I never watch or listen to Colin Cowherd, but I happened to stop on his show today on one of the ESPN's as he was talking the Lakers with Tom Penn. Colin and he were talking about how if they were the Lakers and had to compete with the Warriors to get out of the West for the next 7 years or so, they wouldn't be taking a Center. The argument was about how Centers haven't factored into this Finals at all and how the only true Centers played a combined like 10 mins or whatever in game 5. I think it was Penn that said we should seriously be looking at players like Russell and Mudiay, at something different than the consensus right now, something like that.

I get what they're saying, this isn't a big man league anymore, but I don't really agree with their conclusions. I think the league goes through trends, and the way to get big men relevant again is a matter of drafting and developing great ones again. Anthony Davis is already becoming an example of this to me. I think you take the most talented player available at the #2 spot, you don't gamble on a guard with some potential because that's how the league is trending at the moment. If you get a big that is a top talent, they will start to make the position relevant again. At this point based on what I watched this last college season and everything I have seen of these players I don't see how Okafor and Towns aren't 1 and 2 on every team out there's list.

I understand the thought process, especially after this finals. I guess the Lakers FO has to ask themselves is Okafor the type of player that would break this current trend and move it back to the bigs. Warriors forced the Cavs to go small, can a player like Okafor force a team to play bigger?

drafting a guard right now over towns/okafor could be compared to drafting bowie over Michael Jordan in 84. obviously not the same magnitude, but similar climate/circumstance issue in that the league had dominant bigs and there wasn't a current blueprint for a sg dominating. right now, there's not a great blueprint for a dominant center (I could quibble with that, I suppose, but still).

A big that has to be accounted for will force defenses to collapse inside. So the game is faster and relies on perimeter play, it doesn't mean an Okafor can't play up to it to an extent. He's young...he's mobile and more importantly can play. As long as we have a capable back-up that can spell him reasonable minutes, he'll be fine. He's no plodding, uncoordinated stiff.

As far as the opponent is concerned, it makes it difficult to get their running game going if they are constantly pulling the ball out of the net and having their inside defenders being sent to the bench in foul trouble or being worn out. His rebounding on the defensive side can trigger our own break and run it down their throats... Clarkson, Randle, Young can motor. On the block, Okafor will force them to play and account for him...not the other way around.

Of the 40 Top 2 picks between 1993-2012 (because later picks haven't had much time yet), half of them made at least one all-star game. So I don't think the expectation of an all-star is out of line.

I'm a Towns guy but the more I learn about Okafur the more I like him in purple & gold. He has an intelligent, winning attitude, He's a big dude working with the best trainers in the world to increase his strength and conditioning, and has a real center post game. His attitude parallels those of Clarkson and Randle, which will be a joy to watch as they all develop. I just hope the Laker FO doesn't overthink it and go with Russell to build a team to match up with the GSWs.To me Russell is more the risk, he could be great or be a Kendall Marshall...who he reminds me of.

One of if not "the" best Lakers gif of all time. I've posted it multiple times myself. Captures that fun and awesomeness of the 2-peat with prime Pau and Kobe. A close 2nd is the one with these guys and Lamar howling.... looking at the replay of recently acquired Shannon Brown just ripping the ball out of the guy's hands from behind, on a sure breakaway score high above the rim.
