I watched all three high school allstar games recently. I like these because the spacing and pace is more similar to the NBA's than college ball, and the overall talent level and size is pretty high. Not too many surprises, but I saw some things that did influence my opinions of the top prospects.

Russell: He didn't play all that spectacularly but a couple of things stood out. His alpha personality was on display, as he was directing traffic on the court and pointing guys into position, even when he wasn't even the designated PG! He didn't do much off the ball, but that could have something to do with the defenders sticking to him, rather than crowding the the lane, resulting in some open paths for his teammates. In the post, on a smaller PG, he could even be a big, big, threat.

Mudiay: He definitely looked better than what he showed in the Chinese league, consistently standing out in each of the games. His court vision and patience was impressive, and he looked good finishing inside, as well as bullying smaller PGs in the paint. He did get a lot of his baskets on simply outrunning and muscling his defenders but looks like he's at least ahead of Marcus Smart on being dynamic offensively.

Two guys that I don't think we'll take, but just insights/observations, nonetheless.

Towns: Didn't get much playing time, sometimes in foul trouble, sometimes off the bench. Some brilliant plays, especially passing the ball. Basically, the same as his scouting report- highly skilled, growing into his body, bites on too many pump fakes, but otherwise an intelligent player.

Okafor: Master finisher as always. I think his defense is underrated. He showed great defensive footwork and mobility on occasion, including the aforementioned Mudiay play. I don't have a problem with him dropping back deep to the paint on D, although the announcers did. That's probably what he will be doing in the league anyway. On offense, a couple times he tried to power post move into large strong defenders and failed miserably. He dominated the smaller post defenders. People who assume he will instantly command a double team in the post in the NBA will be disappointed, although he will still find plenty of ways to score

It would be glorious if Phil took Porzingis and then left before the season started. Classic Knicks.

I wouldn't put it past Jackson but he does have an ego about how he is perceived so he might not.

I guess Mitch wasn't lying when he said, he's looking at 'everybody'.

Oh gotcha. Good for them. I wonder if the Towns and Cauley-Stein were also invited.
