While there are no active talks between the two franchises involving a trade for Rondo, sources said the teams did have a brief discussion a few months ago. It's not clear which team initiated the call. Rondo will be a free agent this summer, and sources stressed that the C Bags would prefer to re-sign him. Their willingness to engage in talks regarding Rondo is merely informational at this point, sources said. However, the Lakers have long held interest in the point guard, who helped Boston defeat them in the 2008 NBA Finals, and sources indicate he is high on their list of free-agent targets this summer. Should the teams re-engage in discussions about Rondo, sources indicated Boston likely would ask for at least one first-round draft pick. The Lakers owe their own first-round pick to the Phoenix Suns unless it falls within the top five picks. They also own Houston's first-round pick. The Lakers could include Steve Nash, who has been ruled out for the season with a back injury. Nash is making $9.7 million this season, the final year of a three-year contract with the Lakers. However, league sources indicate the Lakers have thus far been reluctant to engage in discussions including their first-round draft picks after working so hard this past offseason to acquire a pick this season. Rondo's injury history makes it even less likely they'd part with one of their picks for a player they could simply sign as a free agent this summer. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...-lakers-rajon-rondo-boston-C Bags-simply-that
I'd like Rondo, but SHOULD we offer max money? I wouldn't, much as I like him. That leaves us with Rondo alone as our star in 2016 free agency and Young as our 2nd guy, if kobe is retired, because if we give him max we can't afford anyone else in 2015 free agency. There's also the questions of what to do with Davis, and what to do about Hill, because I doubt we keep him for 9 mil again with bigger stars to go after.
I don't know if we'll go max, but we might. He'd be starting at age 29 in the P&G, and with a roster that could include: Rondo Kobe/Clarkson Young Randle Hill It would be pretty attractive for teams - knowing that Kobe's coming off the books via retirement or taking a smaller contract to continue. If I were a bright, young wing player or big wanting to make a splash in a big time market, it would be appealing.
I'm not debating whether he is worth the max or not, but I'm willing to bet on the Lakers offering him a Max-contract for various reasons that have been mentioned...I would like nothing more than than sign him for less $$ and gives us flexibility to improve the roster; I just don't see that happening.
I don't think Hill will be here...he gets dealt at the trade deadline provided he's producing at the same rate he's currently at and doesn't get hurt or he signs elsewhere for a longer term $$$ during the offseason. I'm not advocating it; that's just my opinion.
I don't know about Hill. He seems to like LA, and I don't think he's worth more than $9M a season, but we'll have to see what's available.
You shouldn't. If our FO does, then I'd say that our FO is now equivalent to the West Coast version of the Knicks.
If you can get some type of return for him at the trade deadline you have to do it. Not going to risk some other team getting desperate like the Pistons if Monroe leaves.
We absolutely shouldn't offer the max to Rondo. With his lack of shooting he might aswell not be on the floor when he's playing off ball.
Rondo consumed 34 possessions last night. He took 17 FGA, creating 12 points. He turned it over once. He handed out 16 assists, producing 35 points (3 triples). That means in the 34 possession he consumed, he produced 47 points (1.38 points per possession). Then again, for Rondo this wasn't that unusual: on the season his 385 possessions have produced ~508 points (1.32 PPP). If he comes to LA, he has to be the playmaker. He's one of the best in the league at it. In fact, he's one of the best in history.
I don't think Rondo gets a max deal from anyone to be honest. I think his cap is at 15 million. 4/60 sounds about right to me.
Given how Kobe likes to play, we need two of the following, but all three would be ideal: A big who can score and pass. A wing who can defense and snipe. A PG who can create and will take the ball out of his hands - or a PG who can snipe. I don't think we need max deals to get that.
