I do actually. I think he's the perfect kind of coach to work with Boogie. If there's any truth to that rumor that the Kings are willing to finally put him on the block and we have the luck to keep our pick I think he'll be in our radar. His talent is just so imposing and he can be unstoppable. I haven't seen a big who could potentially dominate like that since Shaq. But of course his mentality and his situation are both holding him back from reaching the level he wants to attain. In the past I've been totally against going after him but with the praise he gave our young core, his relationship with Randle and with someone like Luke at the helm who could help calm him and bring out his best? Wow, I could see him here. And I could see us destroying other teams with a reinvigorated Boogie. Classic high risk high, extremely high reward situation.
Man having Luke here changes everything. Word gets around. Players at GS and guys like Lee Jenkins with great articles on what it's like to play for him, who wouldn't want that if you're coming up short where you are or don't like the situation you're in or the coach you play for. I expect now one of Black or less likely because of money, Bass to come back ....now that Boron the a-hole is gone.
Cousins is exactly the type of guy I don't want around our youth. He'll be toxic for our locker room. He's not a leader. He's incredibly immature. He's had coach after coach after coach and nobody has been able to reach him. Do we really wanna put that kind of pressure on a rookie head coach to have to deal with that? Is Cousins dominant at times? Yeah at times, but he is really turnover prone, holds and has the ball too much for my liking, and I just haven't seen anything from him in terms of being a true leader and franchise player. That team hasn't even come close to the playoffs since he's been there. A true franchise player should at least get them there once.
^To be fair, Cousins didn't have any issues with Mike Malone, but Sactown still fired Malone anyway. Cousins is still an exceptional talent, who could still turn out like Zach Randolph (another player who had maturity issues when he was younger) did in Memphis. But, I'd rather not take that chance on Cousins with this team. Especially if that means giving up talent to acquire him.
Sacramento is gonna want the farm. They'll want the pick, they'll want at least two of Julius, D'Angelo, and JC. That's too much for a hot head like Cousins.
^^ They'll get nothing like that. The only young guy I think we would be willing to let go is JC plus the pick.
To me Julius and D'Angelo should be in the same boat basically. I both see them at the very least future All Stars. Potential alpha males. Guys that both already made tremendous progress despite the clown. If you look at them at the end of the season compared to the beginning they're completely different players. Randle more user control, better decision making which led to more efficiency. Russell, better defensively, and at the start he was somewhat insecure of the moment and far too passive. Now looked a lot more comfortable.
They won't get that. They may ask for it, but we'll say no. Then they'll go to other teams around the league and no one will offer anything close to the #1 or #2 pick plus Clarkson, then the Kings will have to decide if that's enough or if they want to keep him.
Noooo!! to trading Randle or Russell. For nuthin' right now!! Before they have a good coach for 1 year at least after their rookie years each under the worst coach ever in the NBA. Luke would laugh at you. In a nice "magnetic, friendly" way so you get the point and are not offended. In fact you thank him for sharing his wisdom with you ....what were you thinking.?
I really want to see what a great passing forward like Luke can do with Randle before we go off and trade him in a Boogie package. Really not liking what Karl is saying about his experience with Cuz over in Sac either. Imagine him with a young beginning coach. I want to see what Luke's passing game mindset can do with our 3 youngsters. I'd imagine DAR would love having a coach who's game was based on his strong point.
Okay so I'm back from vacation... This is very close to the perfect hire. Luke Walton is by all accounts one of the smartest basketball minds in the NBA right now. He was raised around Wooden, had a great college coach in Lute Olson, played for Phil Jackson, was also around Tex Winter, and now with Steve Kerr he's been exposed to Popovich's ideas too... The man knows more basketball than the rest of us combined and more than Byron Scott has ever known. His only real problem is that he has little experience as a head coach, but in the only sample size we have he's been tremendous. Amazing even. I know I'm late and the excitement has worn a bit but I could not possibly be happier with this position.
there is absolutely NO WAY I'd give up a top 3 pick AND a young stud for Cousins. I'd be hard pressed to give up the pick by itself. How many years would we have Cousins before we realized he's a lost cause? 4 at the most. The draft pick could be a stud for us for 10 - 12 years. Not worth the risk.
