I completely agree. Everyone should be happy right now.

And I agree. I think we just added at least 10 wins.

Who said Luke doesn't have experience developing young players. I forgot this ever happened, some good quotes in that article.

EDIT: Hmmm, no time stamp on that article.... Nov 4, 2013

Great news! The kid I met at the Greek Theatre for a Neil Young concert with his pop, before his rookie season, is now the Lakers head coach! I was sceptical that he would take the job...to me it means with all his connections with players, coaches, GMs, ect... he knows what will come his way as coach of a team with tons of cap space, great day in Lakerland!

I hate Bill Simmons and I just can't find it in me to hate on his positive agreement on the Luke Walton hiring. Yes, it could be the smart Laker move in like 4 years. I hate Bill Simmons and I hate agreeing with him.

I love this hire on CL I spent a lot of time talking about all the things Luke was doing that fans ignored as they said he sucked. Luke was an undervalued player by most fans because the things he did wasn't highlight reel material. He wasn't the best player that is for damn sure but he was a very intelligent and savvy player. His BBall IQ is exceptional in my opinion. For the fan who seems to be on a crucifixion call for Luke I ask this.... How does an assistant coach get a team that just won the Championship to not fall into the usual rut of not playing their best? How does that assistant coach get them to buy into what he is doing, making the right game management moves and preserve his star players? That isn't easy. Our last two seasoned coaches ran our star into the ground, destroyed our young talent and basically got out coached by kittens playing with yarn on the floor.

Luke will hit his bumps and bruises for sure. He isn't taking this team to the Championship and this isn't a Championship team as constructed. He is, however, a young guy who understands the X's and O's of the game of basketball. Steve Kerr is a great coach but even he has said its his assistant coaches that are the reason he is such a good coach. The #1 on that list: Luke.

The only coaches that are a lock in my opinion are Pop and Phil. Neither of them are coming to the Lakers. Everyone else has shown flaws or hasn't proven they can win a championship (yet). So Luke is young and doesn't have a ton of head coaching experience. So what! We have a young team who was abused by a moron who had a ton of it. Great hire by the Lakers.

Love the hire! Welcome back Luke!

Looks like this was the plan from very early on and shockingly enough it actually played out into a reality.

They loved what they heard from him in the meeting, which is good. I'm looking forward to this team growing with Luke.

I'm just glad we didn't strike out on who we wanted or didn't wait till July to make a move. Having Luke and his input this early in the off season will help mold a roster both he and the front office like.

    Wouldn't say that.

Drafting D'Angelo, JC, Julius, Larry, and signing Bass were all smart moves.

When Kelly/Sacre/Brown question your ability to coach, you really do suck. I mean Byron, of course.

I have this gut feeling that Luke is going to hire Jordan Farmar to be an assistant coach. I know they are really close, and even often went shopping at Costco together when they were on the lakers (YouTube "life with Luke Walton")

    ...... :D:D

I like the hire though, there will be growing pains and times where his lack of coaching experience will be exposed, but at a minimum it's a inspiring hire. That can go a long way for a young team as they find a coach they are willing to buy into and goto war with.

I realized that, but I felt it relevant as Sacre and Kelly spent time with him as a coach, so their input seemed worthwhile. Brown most likely will be here next season, and I thought he represented a young players point of view. Maybe not a shot at B0ron, but clearly something the young guys didn't have last season and will be greatly looking forward to.

I think Richard Jefferson is a more likely assistant coaching hire for Luke if he retires after this year. ;)

Agree...pointing out the possible irony of the moment was just too hard to resist at least for Kelly and Sacre. :)

...Walton is also very close to the dude on the far right. He could help him out by bringing him aboard and keep him away from questionable establishments. That pic...memories of such happy times not so far removed.
