I'll move my lean to the Ollie (1B) side since it's looking like Blatt (1a) has no chance and the general consensus seems to be on the Ollie train as well.

I'm not too familiar with Blatt but he did manage that Cleveland team well IMO. I am not sure if he is up to coaching a young core with no bona fide take over stud. If the Lakers can somehow land a less prickly star like Durant, then he can be a viable option.

Listening to Jeannie on the Herd. I've always felt like she was a big part of the problem and she added fuel to that today.

Jeanie is still bitter about how the Lakers didn't choose Phil back in 2013. It's so god damn obvious....

I don't think Jeanie has an outward devious plot to oust her brother and Mitch Kupchak. I really don't. Is it something she thinks about? Yeah of course it is. That doesn't mean it's something she's secretly plotting like a mad genius. Listen to her speak. Does she sound like a mad genius? I don't think so. I think it's likely that Jeanie truly thinks she's doing what's best for her team: providing Mitch and Jim with means and letting them make decisions.

The problem is how little she knows about basketball.

She isn't kept in the loop on the basketball end which makes very little sense. I'm sure plenty of decisions were made by Dr. Buss without his input. I'm 100% certain of that. The good Doctor never wanted to be the decision maker on that level because he knew he didn't know basketball that well. He did however know business and flash and he could see where things were headed before they got there. He had veto power and his wishes were still command when he wanted to put his foot down. When big, important decisions were made I'm certain that he was informed. Why wouldn't he be? If we were firing the coach, isn't that something the President should know?

More importantly: why wouldn't Jim and Mitch tell her? By not telling her, you alienate her and leave her out of the loop. Now she goes on the radio and says she didn't know about it and the team looks worse because of it. What purpose does that serve? What kind of stupid pissing contest is this?

I think at the root of it Mitch and Jim don't respect Jeanie's knowledge of basketball so they don't inform her of decisions on that end. They just do what needs to be done. To be fair, she likely backs this up. She's admitted in the past to not knowing things, so when something comes up Mitch and Jim probably don't want to waste time getting to her.

It just speaks to the schism that's been created here. There's a difference between things being separate and things being unrelated. The basketball side and business side are synergistic. Dr. Buss knew that. These Busses don't.

I honestly don't know which Buss child is the bigger problem anymore and that scares me.

Here's a theory. Maybe Jim and Mitch didn't know they were going to fire Byron until they decided to fire him on Sunday. Hence why Jeanie didn't know about it either.

Afterall, Mark Stein tweeted earlier last week that the FO was still deliberating whether to keep Byron or not. Maybe it was true.

Well then after they come to the decision, the first call that's made should be to Jeanie and not Byron. Jeanie needs to be informed if she's really the one in charge. At least that way she can't be going on radio shows talking about how she didn't know what was going on and how surprised she is by it.

I disagree. I think Jeanie is a real problem. The reports about her "pushing" to keep Byron suggests everything that is wrong with her being in power. I truly believe if it weren't for Jeanie, Scott would have been gone mid-season...possibly sooner. The Lakers usually don't let things get out of hand like they let happen this past season...we were supposed to be a lot better than the 17 wins we amassed...and if anybody can remember, the front office was definitely not expecting to be in a position to land a top 3 pick in this draft with all the additions we made over the summer (Kobe being back, Randle, Russell, Hibbert, Lou, Bass, etc). We weren't going to be a playoff team, but some people thought we could crack 40ish wins....with 25-30 being the low end if injuries occurred. Welp, no injuries occurred and we actually won less than half of the low end that we were expecting.

I also believe that Jeanie created this whole "Kobe Farewell Tour" and milked it as much as she could. I do believe that she wanted to keep Byron so that we suck again and she can finally kick Jim out and bring Phil back in. Jeanie "pushing" to keep Scott is probably exactly why she wasn't informed that they were going to let him go. Also, the fact that she's acting "shocked" about the decision infuriates me even further. Why the heck is she shocked? Even a deaf and blind person would know that this was coming based on how terrible he is. You don't need to even know basketball to fire someone like Scott. Jeanie should have done it herself as far as I'm concerned. She's poisonous to our organization if she wants to keep incompetent fools that stunted the development of our young guys and probably cost us FA's last summer and WOULD have cost us FA's this summer. Jeanie claims to want to WIN and all that crap...but the truth is, she is not about winning. She's about making money. She's "disappointed" that FA's haven't come here, but guess what? YOU are part of the problem JEANIE! You wanting to keep Scott is contradictory to your "it's all about winning" statements. YOU publicly talking about how you're not on the same page as Jim is NOT sending the right message to FA's. YOU talking about PHIL coming back here or how we screwed Phil is NOT HELPING anybody move on from Phil and reports about Phil coming back here will only heat up when you put fuel to the fire.

I'm sorry guys, but I have no faith in Jeanie. I think Jim needs to nail this coaching hire for me to have restored faith in him, but as of RIGHT NOW, I have more faith in JIMMY than i do in Jeanie because he already made the one obvious decision that all of us have beeen clamoring for since last year: HE FIRED BYRON even though all these stupid legacy Lakers were blaming him for our demise, and that list includes Jeanie who likely was just listening to laker greats about how AMAZING Scott is. Jesus christ....I've never been more fed up with Jeanie until today. She is showing her true colors. I hope and PRAY that she doesn't burn our team to the ground.

I don't know if you know this, but I've been just as down on Jeanie as anybody. I was calling for her head months ago. I don't have faith in the Buss kids as a whole and I don't think that we'll really reach our maximum potential until their rift is either fixed or removed.

You can blame Jeanie as much as you'd like, but it's not just her. If you read my post and all you got from it was "Jeanie isn't the problem" then I think you misunderstood what I wrote man. My point is that the entirety of what the Buss kids do is fundamentally wrong. Their lack of communication is a lingering issue and the fact that they keep doing small, petty things to spite each other continues to make the franchise look stupid.

Ah ok I get what you're saying now and I agree. One of them has to be the bigger person basically, and so far, neither of them are willing to be that.

Right. The two of them are being idiots and trying to vie for power publicly. It's just ridiculous and weakens the brand, but neither of them can see that apparently.

Yeah, I like Jeanie but she needed to keep her mouth shut to the press on this one and take it up with Mitch and Jimmy directly.

Yes, it makes the perception of the front office appear petty and directionless.

On topic: Saturday night [?] when I flashed on Scott's firing...my initial reaction was wondering if Lakersball.com might have crashed.
