Yeah I came here to talk about what they were saying.

Ireland seemed to make it down to just Ollie and Luke. Ireland also said they wanted to go with a younger guy, someone who wasn't over 50 years old. He was high on both Ollie and Luke with almost no love for Van Gundy or any other older candidate. They mentioned Messina as an outside possibility too.

    Very encouraging.

Oh .... is Thompson finally through justifying all of Scott's talent and personality defects with his drill sergeant, put all the blame on the young kids and everyone else (while he sucked donkey ****s) method of coaching?

Another BIG note that Ireland says he got from a couple sources in the team:

They want to get this done BEFORE the draft LOTTERY on May 17th!

It's not necessarily a given, but very possible they try to get there. Shelbourne says between Ollie and Walton, it's probably Ollie although it's close. She also says Ollie doesn't mean Durant (which should be a given but... I guess it should be said anyway :D)

Didn't she say she didn't think Luke would turn down an offer from us? So if that's true it's basically a foregone conclusion that either Ollie or Luke will be our coach going forward. Good news.

^^ I think everyone on the radio so far is saying Luke and Ollie are in the forefront of the search. They still speculated on other college and NBA assistant names such Messina (not much talk there), Izzo, Calipari (please NO) and even Roy Williams.

To me that's great news about Ollie and Luke. Ollie's my favorite, Luke my next choice behind him. I'd be thrilled if we got Ollie. I'd be stoked if we got Luke. Either way it should be a HUGE upgrade from what we've had for a long time now.

Ireland said that. I'm not sure if Shelbourne said that or not although she could have.

In my opinion, it's very unlikely that Luke would turn down the Lakers if they gave him a good offer. It's just so hard to pass up an opportunity like that. Who knows when the next time he'll get to see a head coaching offer in EXACTLY the city he wants to be in? Too hard to pass up...

But the Lakers might decide Ollie is the better coach.

if ollie is willing to leave uconn the lakers better jump all over that ASAP

he's a better choice than luke for sure and his experience in college gives him the upper hand in developing young players. i still wouldn't mind luke as a coach but to me, he'd be a better fit for a team that's in a position to contend rather than a team like the lakers that's in a position to develop young players and at least a few years away from contending

I don't see how Luke is better suited for a contender than where we're right now. He's still got a lot to learn like all rookie coaches do. Therefore he would be a better fit here because he wouldn't have the pressure of having to win a title next year because I don't think anyone in their right mind would expect that barring Kevin Durant signing here. You can't go wrong with either, but I don't really get the argument for Luke being better for a contender than a rebuilding team.

From GoldeThroat on LG 'He runs some sort of patterned offense that's mostly 4-out, and features a lot of ball screens. I don't know the exact name of what he runs, fiendish is a lot better at that than I am. I watched an entire UConn game last night to get a feel for what he does. I wasn't blown away, but it's not bad either. I was more impressed on the defensive end.'

Fiendish is the guy I usually post in the X's and O's forum. From what I remember he said, he hasn't watched a lot of Ollie, but the more info that becomes available, I'll post.

So Luke was known as a very high IQ player and he played under one of the greatest coaches in NBA history, and saw first hand his style over the course of long seasons and in the heat of playoff battles. Plus he has the credibility of a couple NBA rings as a player, and he has been an integral part including half the season as head coach of the champion and this year's record setting GS Warriors, who play a contemporary, winning style of NBA basketball.

And Kevin Ollie's resume in "college" has many here instead aroused with wanting him over Luke, because they just don't know about Luke's credentials? Hey either one is great, but I don't understand the thinking of wanting Ollie over Luke. Many esteemed college coaches wind up sucking in the NBA, do they not? Luke's been on the biggest stage already in LA and up at Golden State.

“Kevin Ollie, he was a game-changer for us,” Durant told ESPN’s Bill Simmons on the B.S. Report during All-Star weekend. Ollie only spent 25 games with the Thunder (after a short run some years earlier with the Sonics), playing a total of 263 minutes and scoring 44 points. Whatever it was, Ollie made an impression on Durant and the rest of the team[IMG]. “He changed the whole culture, I think. He might not say it, but I think he changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City.”

“[Ollie’s] mindset, his professionalism, every single day. And we all watched that, we all wanted to be like that, and it rubbed off on Russell [Westbrook], myself, Jeff Green[IMG], James Harden. And you know, everybody that comes through now, there’s a standard you’ve got to live up to as a Thunder player. And that started with Kevin Ollie.”

Pay attention to the 2nd part; that's how you instill a culture. We need a culture.

    Here's more praise:

'It’s just a matter of time,' said one NBA general manager. 'The league will come calling. He’s a great communicator and has a calm demeanor. This win alone, however, doesn’t just tilt the scale. It breaks it.'

'He would be excellent,” another GM said following Monday night’s victory. “He’s a stud. He understands the NBA, he’s a leader, has faced adversity and fought through it.'

One NBA executive told me that whichever team (or teams) makes a run after Kevin Durant when he becomes a free agent, 'will throw the whole ATM after [Ollie].'
