Damn, that's a good trade for the Clippers. Got rid of a guy that wasn't giving them anything really for a guy that could actually be a solid rotation player and contributor.
Green is more a four than a three, but he is certainly a good player. They gave up a 1st to get him though. I think long-term this looks like a good trade for Memphis and a bad trade for the Clippers. The Clippers will still likely bounce in the 2nd round and then could lose Green in the summer. Short-term I think it's good for both sides.
Clippers know they only have 1-2 more years to tweak the roster before it gets blown up if they don't make some noise in the playoffs. If Green works out, and they make it past the 2nd round, I bet they go all in to keep him.
I'll tell you why it's a good deal, because Jeff Green > Wes freakin Johnson. Same for Paul Pierce and the guy they sent out for Green, Stephenson.
In a few years they'll lose a 1st rounder for a guy who they traded for and didn't help them get over the hump. On that day everyone will have a good laugh at them. But yeah short term it's a good deal.
Yeah, but I mean how valuable are first rounders really when you're a top 6-10 team in the league? You're forced to draft and give a guaranteed contract to a guy in the mid to late 20's. First rounders are great when you freakin suck and you get a Blake Griffin, but the Clippers have historically sucked at drafting. I don't even recognize most of the names they've taken the past 20 years. They need to win now, it's now or never. They won't, but hey, points for trying.
Ugh. Great great great deal for the Clippers. Literally Jeff Green is exactly what they needed....and with BG out...Jeff Green can play some stretch 4. Great short term deal for CLippers...great deal overall for the Grizzlies. And maybe they get something out of Stephenson....or maybe not.
At least with Stephenson and Barnes they can give wings some fits and possibly require a restraining order before the game is over. Memphis got a little more physical, they'll still get tossed out of the post-season as usual but they got a decent haul now and long term for Green who had one foot out the door.
