Looking good out there young fella. The poise and hitting shots in the 4th were crucial for our comeback.

35+ minutes a game for the rest of the season is a must.

I think he'll get more time. He's been playing relatively well lately, and I think he deserves a promotion after the All-Star break. Start and finish games.

Byron should definitely be smarter, Russell deserves to be a starter.
I think Byron needs some glasses, he can't seem to see Russell's beautiful passes.

    Jesus Christ.

There was, however, this from Baxter Holmes:

"I haven't been the easiest man on him in the world. He's just a kid playing in a man's world," Scott said of Russell. "I'm going to stay on him, because I think he has a chance to be a very good basketball player."

If I'm 100% honest, I can see that.

But why does he have to say that to the media? I'm not going to volunteer information like that to the media if I don't have to.

Exactly realdeal. Why air that out to the media? So you can save your own arse? I'm so sick of it.

Scott is all about saving himself and he doesn't care about the players....he's just a defensive a-hole.

And for what it's worth, I don't think inherent playfulness is a bad thing. Russell's easy-going attitude is going to be a stark contrast to what Kobe has given us for 19 years. We're going to get frustrated sometimes when it seems like he doesn't take things as seriously as Kobe did. We'll also have more fun at times because we'll see this kid having fun out there.

Point Differential Since January 1st (20 games)

    Russell on court........-6 (517 minutes)
    Russell off court....-177 (443 minutes)

Over the course of 48 minutes, that's the difference between a -0.6 and -19.2.

    Thanks to GoldenThroat.

By Play Type, PPP, Frequency, Percentile

    Pick & Roll......0.71......40.9%....43rd
    Spot-Up.........0.96......16.8%....55th
    Transition.......0.95......15.5%....22nd
    Isolation........0.95........4.8%....73rd
    Hand Off........1.06........4.3%....78th
    Post Up..........0.83.......3.9%.....50th
    Cut................1.42.......3.1%.....85th
    Off Screen......0.86.......2.7%.....35th

These are extremely encouraging splits relative to his age.

The Lakers lead the league in possessions used by a PnR ball handler, due to poor roll men and poor spacing principles. As evidenced by the fact that a 0.71 PPP still gets you in the 43rd percentile, these are very low PPP shots. He should improve on this shot as he learns his PnR reads, but he should ultimately be taking a LOT less of them, which will happen down the line. Unfortunately, those are the shots that are currently open more often than not on this team.

Transition numbers punish primary ball-handlers, because they're usually the only guys who turn it over on a fast break. For example, John Wall is in the 38th percentile in Transition, and James Harden is in the 42nd percentile. He needs to improve here, but it's not as bad as it looks.

He's been very efficient on two of the Play Types that are created off of motion (Cuts, Hand Off) and hasn't done well Off Screen on limited touches. He's been respectable on Spot Ups as well.

More commentary from GoldenThroat; breaking down the stats...

f*** off Byron. Never a positive thing to say about the kid. What a piece of s***. Get him the f*** out of here. So D'Angelo isn't as serious as Kobe. Who is?

Here are the eFG% (effective field goal percentage) for our perimeter guys. I use this rather than TS% because Lou Williams is a damn witch and I don't think our system has anything to do with how many FTAs he gets. [IMG]

eFG% of Laker perimeter players (no heaves included)

    D'Angelo Russell......48.8%
    Jordan Clarkson.......48.7%
    Lou Williams............47.4%
    Nick Young..............46.0%
    Kobe Bryant............40.9%
    Anthony Brown........40.1%
    Metta World Peace....38.0%

The fact that a 19 year old is leading our perimeter players in eFG% not only says a lot about him, but a lot about how little help the guys get from the system. It's not just one guy...it's a team-wide issue

Edit. Credit to GT for the stats again...
