Pencil in another loss on Sunday. Wesley more aggressive?

All he should ever do in a game is play D like his life defends on it, slash to the hoop when the guy guarding him helps off him, and spot up behind the 3 point line.

    That's it.

If he did just that he wouldn't be as much of a liability as he is at the current time. It would still be a loss but not as large of a loss as the alternative.

Teams that watch any tape at all should attack the Wesley and Boozer combo relentlessly every single game.

Next offseason, I hope we can pick up the "new" Wesley Mathews.

The Wesley we have right now isn't getting the job done.

By attack you mean let them shoot, force shots up, right?

Will he be wearing a different team's jersey? If so, sign me up.

Will he be "jacking off" threes all game? If so, I'm not interested.

Yes Wes, that's the problem! You just needed to be more aggressive. I'm sure he can score 20 on Sunday (10-40 shooting) and every time he dribbles the ball out of bounds off his own foot, we'll all feel better knowing he decided to try harder.

He has a simple role and he can't fulfill it. Stand at 3pt. Sprint to get open dunks, passes, slash etc.. If Roscoe comes back, plug him into the lineup.

When we signed him, I thought he can develop into Ariza Version 2.0...forget about it...

A different Wesley Johnson? As in worse? I didn't think that was possible.

"Johnson says Kobe Bryant’s been telling him to play like his family depends on it. Johnson says he’s ready for the challenge and knows his teammates and coaches are behind him, even declaring that we’ll see a more “wild” side out on the court. Scott’s been waiting to see an assertive and aggressive side of Johnson.

He’s got the green light. He can’t worry about me taking him out cause I’m not going to take him out for taking a bad shot or making a mistake offensively. Now I’ll take him out for making a mistake defensively, but not on the offensive end,” Scott said of Johnson after practice. “I know he can be better and that’s what I’m kinda pushing for.”

Wes Johnson vowed that we’ll see a different Wesley Johnson in the Lakers next game against the Charlotte Hornets Sunday. The Lakers have another day of practice before Johnson gets another chance to prove himself."

haha. we'll see about that. prove me wrong Wes.

Well, his family MIGHT depend on it. Who else is going to pick him up if he fails with the Lakers?

BTW, anyone think Scott sees too much of a throwback player in Wes? Maybe he sees him as a Showtime-type player and it's clouding his judgment.

Yeah, what can you say. The fact that Kobe Bryant has to push him to do what he should be doing on his own is VERY telling. Wes just hasn't shown that drive. Yes, he took the initiative to work with Kobe this summer. But really, the thing he needs to do is play smarter on both sides of the court. Just not sure he has the brains to be with the starters.

The most annoying part is where the hell is the defense out of Wes. He's HORRENDOUS right now on that end. I have never expected a lot from him offensively and actually he's surprised me a little with his good 3 point shooting this year. 40% is way better than I would have hoped for.

But damn, with that length, athleticism, foot speed . . . there is NO reason he should be this terrible on defense. It's brains and instincts. It's basketball IQ as so many have said. Ariza was blessed with outstanding BBall IQ. This guy has next to none. Can it be taught? Is he smart enough to have it stick? Forget working with Kobe - as therealdeal has mentioned many times, he should have been working with Coop! He still should. Or at least someone who is known for the defensive side of the ball. If he were to become a lockdown defender (that's a huge If obviously as we've seen) he would have great value to this franchise. He's young enough and has enough potential upside to be THAT guy on the court for us for a number of years. We already have a scoring 3 in Young for the bench. Wes could be his counterpoint - the lockdown SF that can be a game changer.

But again, I've just about given up hope for him. I just don't know if he has the smarts. That's all it takes, but it's a major thing. That's why I love the Scarecrow references in this thread.
