Larry Nance Jr. Discussion: Don't Fake The Funk On A Nance Dunk

Larry Nance Jr. seriously could be so much, but his floor seems so low to me. At this young stage in his career he makes so few mistakes. He's the ultimate coach's player in that he will take what he can, but won't do anything he can't. It's brilliant. He's one of those pieces that ties together a team and pushes them from good to great.

He could be a bench role player his whole career, but that career could be 10-12 years.

I'm seeing visions of sugar plums with the Julius/Larry lineup. I hope we see some more of that.

 

If Nance can get that jumper going, he can play sf for us. He is athletically gifted enough and he is the same size as Battier. Bruce Bowen didn't have a 3 ball coming out of college. Nance is so fundamentally sound for his age, there is no reason to believe he can't develop his outside shot. Nance and Randle at the 4/5 is too small, even by today's small ball standards. If Nance is going to get major minutes with us in the future, he will have to adapt to the sf spot a bit.

 

The problem with the two of them as 4/5 together is there is ZERO rim protection. Like NOTHING. Unless Clarkson and Russell become lockdown perimeter defenders, that lineup will get torched. I agree that Nance is more of a pf than a sf, but if Randle turns into the player we hope, Nance will need to be able to play both sf and pf to get as many minutes as possible.

 

I disagree.

Draymond Green plays Center at times for the Warriors when they go small and he's shorter/lighter than Julius is. Randle/Nance Jr. at the 4/5 has great potential as long as Nance Jr. can continue to stretch his range. We saw him knock down a few threes early in the year and Julius has shown a little progress there too. I see pretty awesome potential there if you give us an athletic SF to go with them.

 

Maybe. But Randle is so bad defensively. Draymond is DPoY caliber. If it ever worked "well" it would be well into the future in a time where Randle has figured out how to play defense. I'm not saying it so much because of the actual measurements (height/weight) of the players. It's all about the skill sets. GS can get away with someone with Green's size because he's a top 5 defender in the league, and he's surrounded by Klay, Barnes and Iggy...all of whom are good to great defenders. I'm not worried offensively. That pairing can score. But it doesn't matter if the other end is a layup line.

 

And I framed it as a I love the potential in that lineup. Even offensively I didn't see it as beautiful last night. Neither of those two are deadeye shooters and it'd create issues with spacing pretty quickly against a good defensive team right now. There's a lot of development still to be done by both those players, Clarkson, Russell, and the whole team really. The point is a lineup of Randle/Nance Jr. could work really well if they continue to develop like they have. It's an intriguing option. I don't think it'll win us 20 games this year, but it could in the future.

 

Yeah he's torn an ACL I believe but I don't know which knee. Hopefully not the same one. He's got a bright future and it'd be such a blow if that was derailed by injury before it even gets to start.

 

Torn acl and a return to the most rigorous basketball schedule in your life can equal some stiffness and soreness. Scale him back a bit and he'll be fine long run.
