But Fisher followed Phil, someone he trusted and believed in and believed in him.

Who feels that way about our front office.

    Besides Byron...... [IMG]

I don't know Luke's relationship with the people in our FO so I can't tell you that. It's not all that important though. For Luke it'd be the opportunity of a lifetime to land a head coaching position in LA. It's just about putting him in those circumstances to make it work.

But if you have the dream opportunity of a lifetime before you are ready, you could ruin the rest of your career.

Byron got lucky to get Jason Kidd a couple years in, and apparently never really learned to coach. Luke is coaching veterans that have been on the same team for years with a system in place their personnel is suited for and sought after by the legendary Jerry West.

Just apples and oranges between the situations. But you never know....maybe it's a good fit. Who would he bring for assistant coaches?

Exactly, and based on the Lakers precedent that is worrisome. We like to go with guys who have had some kind of success previously.

Did you know that our last 3 coaches (4 if you count Phil) have ALL won the Coach of the Year Award? Yep that includes Potato, "No-D" Antoni, and Tank Master. We went with proven coaches, all who have won 55+ games in a season at least once and who have sniffed the Finals or conference finals. I think our FO looks at outcomes more than the process. Which is unfortunate because coaching is so much a process and you can't judge coaching solely by team outcomes.

Now Walton too, sort of fits that mold. Leading GS to the best start in NBA history because of a medical procedure gone wrong. Since Walton now has a track record of winning, I see the Lakers more willing to go in that direction too.

Scott Brooks isn't a good coach so he would fit in with our last 3 hirings

The first part of your paragraph is true. GS has very underrated players with high IQ's but Kerr only implemented that system a year ago and that system has wrecked the entire league. Those players were not sought after by Jerry West. GS has a think tank of very smart management that includes Jerry's influence and wisdom on basketball related matters; however, he wasn't the sole 'mastermind' that put that team together. Again, GS is comprised of one of the best management teams in basketball, if not the best, period.

When ownership/management made the decision to terminate Mark Jackson, that was one of the best moves that I have seen management make; they took a guy that was well beloved by some of the players, and Mark had the team on an upward trajectory.

Nevertheless, they knew there needed to be a changing of the guard for other reasons. It was a great move from a great forward thinking organization. That same management team thinks very highly of Luke. Very highly. All the players think highly of him, too.

They do have a system in place for their personnel, and guess what? He'll (Luke) take that same system and install parts of it over here in Lakerland. As I mentioned before, that offense that has different layers to it, has wrecked the league going on 2 years straight. That's what we'll be getting. Russell, Randle, and Clarkson would wreck the league with it. Believe that.

Staff? I'd imagine we keep some guys on board. Worthy, Larry Lewis, and Mark Madsen. Jim Eyen and Paul Pressey can go with Byron. I would imagine the Lakers/Luke would have some ideas as well.

Richard Jefferson seething with anger and jealousy.

But in all seriousness, Walton over Brooks without question. Brooks is a bad X's and O's guy who rode the coattails of 2 top 10 players. Like Lakerjones said, Mike Brown 2.0. Walton is at least a fresh face and is probably going to be better with our youngins. Maybe he is a great coach or maybe he isn't. But we already know Brooks is mediocre at best. Granted a lot of people on this board knew Byron was dreadful too (me, me, me), but the front office couldn't figure that one out.

^Agreed. I'd take Walton over Brooks, even if Walton is an unknown. Regarding Byron, at the time of the hire I was never high on it. I thought he was an average coach at best but I'd never though he was the worst coach in the league.

Yeah Boron has out done himself. He's the worst Laker coach in history. And has the track record to prove it. I never would have thought it would be the case, but sadly Boron has earned himself the dubious honor.

I would never take life advice from Stephen Jackson but Byron's so bad that I accept what he's saying as 100% fact

I think the curtain has been pulled back a bit - Mitch is now putting his stamp more on this team, which seems to be a good thing.

    "... and I'm living proof."

Does that mean Byron is going to turn Russell and Randle into Steve Jax's?

Wow, that was fantastic. "Too much pride, 'I played with Magic' and all that", you can feel this from him. And Jax wasn't even getting super personal or over the top, he made his point calmly and rationally, I don't think anyone can argue with anything he said here (except maybe that B0ron knows the game). Bad communicator, too much pride, stuck in the past (outdated ways), he pretty much covered it all in 2 mins.
