Byron can't hide anymore. It's gonna get even more brutal after we lose on Christmas day.

Absolutely. He just doesn't understand modern basketball, something we all knew but Woj made crystal clear in his interview.

For me it's not really about "old school" versus "modern" - basketball isn't rocket science. It's just that Byron is bad. I don't care so much about his philosophy as much as I care about results. More than old school versus new I think one of the major issues is that Byron is stuck and has no flexibility, no in game adjustments, no understanding of his roster, and no systems that work. If Riley coached this team right now there is no way in hell we would have this kind of record. He's the guy that Byron is trying to be but isn't. Riley would have this team close to .500 and competing every night because he knew how to motivate, he understood the psychological side of coaching and could get the best out of his players, just like the other greats such as Phil, Pop, Chuck Daly, and dare I say it here, Auerbach. Despite the fact that he's won rings, these guys don't respect Byron I have a sneaking suspicion because he doesn't respect them. It's a two way street.

We need someone who can develop these young players while still being able to attract free agents with a solid system on both ends of the court. This tanking we're doing, whether deliberate or due to incompetence, is a big time failure for our overall goal of finding a star in FA to replace Kobe. WOJ is saying so straight out.

The FO has been able to ride out this whole thing so far with Jim and Mitch saying they have a plan, etc. But they are running out of time rapidly. This summer is when they have to really show us something. We need a new, good coach, something they have not been able to provide since Phil, and we need to sign some good free agents so that we can be competitive again. The pick isn't as important because if we lose it, we keep our pick next year instead of being in the same position with a top 3 protection.

John Ireland, company ball-washer, mentioned on the pregame last night that had the Lakers lost big to the Nuggets the previous game it may have just been too much, forcing the FO's hand to make a change...roster or coach. I know he speaks flatulence, but maybe he has some inside vibes about the climate of the FO? We need to hope for a few more massacres in a row maybe.

Yeah, Punk, the fact that Ireland, the company yes man, has even seemed to completely lose patience with Byron has given me a ray of hope that we will eventually fire Scott, maybe soon or maybe after this atrocious season. The one thing I dread is that they will publicly give Byron the whole "innocent bystander" excuse for Kobe's last season and the youth of the roster and let him finish out his last year of the contract. I will lose it if we have to watch another year of Byron's mess. There is no way he should be the HC for the young guys for another season. He isn't the right guy and he's now proved that.

I don't buy this at all. The deciding factor with this moron or roster is losing to or beating a depleted Denver team? Losing to OKC by 40 and 30 doesn't matter? What's the next last straw? Losing to the Sixers again? Please, we either suck or we don't, we beat the Nuggets thanks to Kobe, that doesn't mean B0ron doesn't suck and the rookies aren't struggling in large part thanks to him. Ireland is full of crap. If there was a last straw it would have come many times over with a team that has no business being 5-24. We don't even have the injury excuse or hard schedule excuse, we are fully healthy and have had it easy.

He has completely done an about face. He was on 710 earlier this week (later last week?) bashing Byron as well.

Byron's days are numbered. You can't lose AND not play the kids. Him losing the kids at this point is quickly becoming an issue and that'll be the final straw.

He seemed to be hinting at morale or something, that losing to the thunder by 40 and then down 21 to a depleted Denver team may have been the last straw for the players' psyche, leading them to finally quit on Boron, forcing the FO's hand. Idk, I just want him gone with Madsen taking over letting the players run what they want, pnr mostly. I agree with you though. Doubtful the doofus gets canned.

agreed @therealdeal . ONLY way Byron gets canned is if the youngsters quit on him.

I could see Byron getting canned if the Lakers get blown out on Christmas which frankly I'm hoping they do. This has gone on for way too long. If that's what it takes for the front office to finally wake up and fire this clown so be it. He is toxic.

I know everyone worries about whether a big time free agent comes to the Lakers in the offseason. However, I believe that if the Lakers get a good, well-respected coach that can sell a vision to FAs, the FO will be able to sell LA. The thing that concerns me is that the youngsters need to play to show their stuff to big time FAs. Plus, playing them will hasten their development. If we are losing Byron might as play them until their legs fall off.

You either go two ways with the next coach....

Proven - Thibs. Well respected, coach with a philosophy that works, players don't trash him, doesn't have a bad rep. Great sell to free agents. Quick turnaround.

Unknown - Think Brad Stevens. Young and hungry, brings a new spin to coaching, can relate to the new age player, rep based on drive and being a student of the game. This move tells free agents, hey check back in a couple years the foundation will be built and ready for you to complete the process.

What we cannot do is hire one of these middle of the road retread coaches that do not fit the team (MDA), just straight garbage overall (Scott) or coach that just scooted by on greatness of players (Brown). These coaches aren't respected, have a hit or miss rep with players, and will not draw players here. This moves says hey we are cool being average to below average while not building towards anything.

Pick a lane with the next coach, don't stay in the median.

Adelman was my pick too back then. Maybe we wouldn't have been upper echelon, but I feel like we'd at least be respectable now.

In hindsight yeah, Adelman was the best choice by far back then.
