And on defense, while Towns could easily shoot over Randle with his height advantage, when he tried to physically back him down, Randle didn't budge.

And yes, I do not understand how a team would take Exum on a lot of invented potential alone from what I saw, Godron on athletics and not much else, and injured Embiid over Randle. Parker I get, because he and Wiggins were talked about as halfway into the college season after people cooled on Randle for some reason, and I do think Parker will be very good once he gets back fully from his injury. Smart though, people wanted to talk about red flags with Julius, but not with Smart? He was a poor shooter and he had some major attitude issues, those should be red flags too.

    With what we know now,
Randle would go #2 last year (maybe even #1.... 15.5 pts and 12 reb per 36 minutes is no joke)
Clarkson securely in the Top 5.
And Russell could end up being the best player in his draft class.

This is so unfair to the rest of the league :giggle:

Wild right? Pincus (I know a lot of people are upset at him, but still) has said that people around the league are really bullish on our future. Not only do we have three young great prospects, but we've got a ton of cash to spend. A little creativity and our team could be great for a long time just like what the Warriors have built. Getting our pick would be an awesome first step, but we've got some great things coming hopefully.

All we need is for the young guys to get a lot of time to impress potential FAs. That's a huge huge huge step for us.

You might be right real re: the orchestration. I watched the draft clip again. Look how happy Julius was when the Silver called his name for the Lakers. It was a happy sigh like "yes it all worked out according to plan." And that fire with "they'll regret it" hoohoo. Love this kid.

Now a few years down the road, imagine Julius with a developed jumper...maybe even a 3 pointer. Oh geez.

I agree with respect to Randle and Clarkson. As for Russell being the top of his draft class, i think Towns is good enough that even if Russell somehow edges him out, it can't be by enough to actually matter. But yeah, the fact that it's even open to discussion is amazing. Just hope FA's can see it as clearly as we do.

Speaking of him and KAT, I loved it when KAT twice tried to back down Randle and Randle didn't move an inch. The only time KAT scored on Randle was doing a screen on the ball and then fading outside in the corner for the shot. In the post despite it only being a few possessions Randle held his own against KAT defensively.

although impressive, that clip shows all the wasted motion in julius's game. that was an easy spin move finish before he got all multi-pivot on it. i'm sure worthy will work on that with him. part of it is experience, of course. he'll start to know when he has the initial shot.

Are you talking about his dream shake? How dare you? That was vintage Hakeem aka the most creative post player that ever lived.

i assume that's sarcasm--but i can't tell, so i'll clarify: olajuwon did have great footwork, but he used it when he needed it. he would have left-hand dunked on the first move and had the foreign guy sniffing his armpit. randle might get there, though his finishes will mostly be layups.

    No I'm half serious. :D

Look it wasn't perfect, but the fact he broke it out and it worked is impressive in and of itself. I agree Hakeem would have done it with less wasted motion, but we're talking about a 20 year old kid here who has now shown:

    a) an ability to drive both left and right off the dribble against SFs, PFs, and Cs (still finishes left with his right handed drives)
    b) a dream shake
    c) a really effective up and under
    d) an ability to bully ball his way to the rim
    e) a really great looking jump-stop fade away in the lane going to his right

I mean his offensive game has looked truly amazing when you think about it. Sure, the dream shake wasn't perfect but the fact that it's within his ability to go to it... That really makes me think great things are ahead for this young man.

Not a lot of players have those post moves, or many post moves at all, that's for sure. But as mentioned, he's young and can figure out when to go quicker or when he already has the shot over time. I think right now he's used to making a lot of moves the same way he's used to hanging and double pumping a lot of layups, because he has shorter arms and he's a little undersized at PF so that's what he does to get around that. Maybe he won't have to as he adjusts to the NBA over time, but it seems to be the way he's always played, hard to change that.

Would you all just stop with the shorter arms?

    -----------------------------------

Above (in default LB font size) is 2.5 inches or so.

Are you really going to tell me that this (which is the one arm difference between Julius' "pedestrian" 7'0" and an "amazing" 7'5") is making that much of a difference? And where did he learn all that? In college, where he used to be the one of the bigger guys?

BS. All these double pumps are a habit he should break our of. It has nothing to do with arm length.

    ---

BTW... for those who need some context - Pippen, who, by all accounts was very long and lanky and had no trouble defending or finishing over the top - is also a 7'0"
Same goes for Beasley, Al Horford. Draymond Green, Jeff Green and Johakim Noah are at 7'1.25". Nance is 7'1.5". Blake Griffing is 6'11.5".

    It doesn't matter.

He may not have not have shorter arms, but something about him makes him look a little undersized. Maybe it's his shot motion and the way he holds his arms, kinda tucked in. All I know is he can have trouble against length, and he tends to do the double pumps against it. But like I said I think he can adjust and start to get rid of that stuff over time. The biggest issue he had against length this season was NY, and I don't blame him for having trouble and getting his shot blocked against a 7'3 opponent, and for double pumping all that game.

Hahaha, what's funny about that is I think Randle actually has kind of a little head for his body. Maybe that's what makes him look undersized to me, because something is doing it and I don't even think he is.

I guess this is how Randle will have to control rebounds.

I actually think Randle's head is LARGER and more rotund than normal, which makes his body look small and dinosaur like. I shrunk his head and now it looks more proportional to his body:
