Another double double, but nah lets play him off the bench and not let him finish the game.

unless Byron's name is wood and randle is his own butt! foxhole!

seriously, though, this ploy worked so well. if they cut randle's minutes down to 10, he'll put up prime tim Duncan numbers and be really fresh for the 2019 playoff run.

I would like to think his incredible stats in 20 minutes is a giant middle finger to the ugly face of Byron Scott. Attaboy Julius. Now take the mutiny full force and get this clown out of our city.

I can only assume the Lakers have decided that they need to tank again....

and honestly, this team is just not any good. Regardless of who plays. But benching the guys that are supposed to develop into players that help you get out of lottery, thats kind of a head scratcher. But the truth is neither Randle nor Russell have been standouts. Both rather inconsistent, good and bad games. Both are also guys that talk the talk...so having them understand that nothing is handed to them, might not be a bad thing in the long run.

yeah, the one raps announcer was gushing over him for the entire game. saying some of the same things that we do. in particular, he noted that lots of folks have played randle's game in college and been unable to play it in the pros, but it's already obvious that randle will be able to do the exact same things at this level.

the question, then, is can he do more.

re kb24's comments: I'm sure that's what Byron's doing, and I'm not sure he's wrong about randle and Russell's attitude. neither has had to face much adversity on an individual level, and scott probably feels this is character building. it's a pretty big gamble, though. like "this could be the last time you coach in the nba" size gamble. if he loses those two, he'll be fired and probably never work again.

I know these two don't play the same way, but I said that Randle would post Boozer-like numbers. Check this:

Boozer Year 1, age 21 season:
    25.3 minutes
    10.0 points
    7.5 rebounds
    1.3 assists
    0.7 steals
    0.6 blocks

    Randle age 21 season
    28.0 minutes
    11.8 points
    9.3 rebounds
    1.9 assists
    0.9 steals

    0.5 blocks

Notice that Randle has him in every category except blocks (and FG%). Look what Boozer did in his year 22 season:

    34.6 minutes
    15.5 points
    11.4 rebounds
    2.0 assists
    1.0 steals
    0.7 blocks

Could Randle make that leap? From 12/10 to 15/11? I think so, and for what it's worth, when ran preseason projections on his development, I came up with:
    Year 1 (2015-6): 13.2, 9.5, 2.0
    Year 2 (next year): 14.3, 9.6, 2.3
    Peak season: 19.0, 10.0, 3.3

Randle destroyed Scola last time they faced on another. I thought it was a very poor time to bench him, especially given that match up and him coming off a double double.

After a larger sample size, I think Julius at his peak can and should beat Boozer in assists and steals. I love Julius's ceiling. I think he's got some Lamar Odom in Carlos Boozer's body.

you want to give the guys some adversity and make them earn it? okay. well Randle responded to coming off the bench with 15/11 in 21 minutes. i would say he earned the right to finish the game. what lesson are you teaching these guys when they play well and earn the minutes, but you don't give it to them? i can't even play devil's advocate with Byron.

Julius is averaging 15 and 12 per 36 minutes. This is playing in a wacky system that gives him the ball too far away from the basket and without having a jump shot or having developed his right hand. That is scary. This kid can be a dominant big man if he ever improves those aspects of his game.

Bryon looks at our roster and only sees interchangeable bench fodder.

I look at our head coach, and all I see is

Randle has more boards than Towns in only one more game? That's pretty awesome, I don't see how we can expect much more of this guy in his true rookie season under this horrendous coach and his non-systems.

To put it in even further context, Julius Randle is 13th in the entire league right now. He's just one rebound behind Porzingis and Draymond Green. He's got just 5 less rebounds than Hassan Whiteside. He's got more rebounds than Pau Gasol and Blake Griffin. Heck he's got more rebounds than Anthony Davis although Davis has been in and out of the lineup.

If there's one thing Julius does at an elite level it's rebound the ball. If he boxed out more regularly, he'd have even a few more.

Well you and ROFY above just proved Boron's point by posting all of that .... he does deserve to be benched. Don't want him feeling good about himself and the Lakers and getting the big head now.
