We played Drummond pretty well. Yes he was still 17 and 17 but it didn't feel like a lot. Hibbert, Drummond, and Randle were pretty much talking smack the whole game.

^^^ Yeah, that. Talks on D, seems to be teaching guys out there at all times, blocks or changes so many shots, up and cheering guys on when he's on the bench, goes out and does his job. Also he doesn't miss from the foul line, around 90% for a true center these days seems unheard of.

    He's doing a good job.

But it still irritates me that

    1) We almost never run pick and pop with him despite the fact that he has a decent mid-range jumper
    2) We don't run pick and roll enough with him. Roy is a HUGE body. Either our guard eludes his defender or he dumps it off to Roy. Even if Roy doesn't make the shot, he still has a chance to attack the defense and get to the FT line and where's absolutely killing it.
    3) He's always playing with somebody who doesn't "help the helper" on defense. Like folks have mentioned many times before, it would be interesting to see Larry Nance and Hibbert on the floor together.

Drummond could have gone 30 and 30 if it wasn't for Roy's size affecting the paint.

Also made him shoot a bad FG% for a bigman.

    Good work Roy

We need to give Roy an extension like now. He's more than earned it at this point. But i understand if everybody wants to wait until the offseason.

The ONLY reason to not extend him is the possibility of injury, serious injury. No he's far from an elite center however those are few and far between.I especially like his professionalism, that's worthy of an extension on it's own merits...

I actually would extend him. We aren't going to find a more competent center IMO, and with a real coach he could be a major piece to turn a defense around. Injury is a concern with any player, but Roy has no history of it. The least amount of games he's played in a season is 65, and that was the lockout shortened season. Other than that he's usually almost played every game. He constantly talks on defense, he's a great teammate, he does the dirty work, he has a money jumper and doesn't miss free throws, he almost never gets a played called for him on offense and never complains, he's exactly what I want in my center in today's game.

Let me make my injury point clearer...the ONLY reason to not extend him until the end of the season is fearing a serious injury THIS season. After the past few years of watching a mash unit trying to keep Laker players healthy I'm gunshy.

No the reason you don't extend him is to preserve as much cash as possible this summer as long as possible. If by some crazy miracle you convince Durant to come down, then you fit everything around him. Even if it's not Durant, the point stands. No reason to make us less flexible this summer unless Roy is demanding an extension or something.

No I understood your point, and it's valid. All I was saying is injury is a risk no matter what. Extend him now and he gets injured, terrible. Re-sign him long-term and he gets injured next season, terrible. My point was if there is a center we can go after long-term where injury is historically low risk, it's this guy.

Most likely we won't try to extend him anyway though, we don't seem to do that unless the players name is Kobe or Pau. I just hope we don't lose him waiting around on some pipe free agent, that's a reason I would extend him, to avoid that. To respond to what you just posted, real, I don't agree. We've missed on too many 2nd tier guys waiting on pipe players. Tons of money isn't going to land us Durant, but having guys like Hibbert locked up and not on 1 year rentals might attract better free agents. When will we learn this lesson?

I like Roy a lot. Like Weezy said, besides having a back to the basket game, he does everything I want from my center today. Good ft shooter, decent outside shot, tremendous defender, awesome teammate, does all the dirty work. If we had a decent coach, I think Roy would look even better than he's looked.

The thing is with Hibbert we have his Bird Rights, something we didn't have with the second tier players we've lost. Do you take the gamble? Hibbert seems like a loyal guy. Hard decision to make especially how hard it is to find a center of his skill level.

More pick and rolls with Hibbert. That's all our offense really needs.

    Sigh.

I have patience for the team, it's the coaching staff that I have a short fuse for.
