Yeah, if that wasn't an intentional shot, it was subconscious. I don't think Russell is a Byron fan at all.

Yeah Russell. You and all the other guys need to just stop being so soft. In fact, all of us posters need to stop being so soft as well....

I see little improvements with Russ each game so far. He shot poorly to start, but then he had a little stretch in the 2nd when he hit a couple in a row and made some nice passes and started getting into a little more of a flow. I think being in at the end of a game, in the pressure moments, trying to fight back into it, those are very valuable minutes for him.

Russell needs to get all the way to the hoop a couple times. huertas can do it; Russell should be able to. much like randle's jumper would help open up the drive, Russell's drive could open up more passing lanes and open shots for himself. I think it's a strength/confidence issue. he should be taking notes from Clarkson in this regard, as JC really figured that out as the season went on last year.

I was glad to see Russell get to have the ball more in this one--though I still think that regardless of what kobe says, he's not giving up the rock soon enough when he doesn't have an advantage. kobe needs to not be putting the ball on the floor without a direct purpose. that should be reserved for Russell, huertas, and Clarkson. everyone else: don't dribble that ball unless you're going at the rim.

I'm watching the guy who's getting picked off and not getting the necessary rotations to help him.

The hell is supposed to do?

Byron's not running anything for him. There's no defensive scheme to defend the pick and roll. It's on the entire team. Stop trying to look for a scapegoat.

I'm just checking into this thread to see if this guy is still on the team. Didn't we draft a guy named D'Angelo Russell? Did Scott send him to the Defenders.

Pretty much agreed. There's room for Randle, Kobe, and Lou to make plays for others too, but it should come off of secondary actions where they're first set up by one of the PGs. For instance if they call for a post up for Kobe or Julius, those two can still make plays for others out of that. That type of thing. Otherwise, we should have a steady dose of pick and rolls from Russell, Huertas, and Clarkson.

Just for Russell: I thought he played alright. I didn't understand the quick pull in the 3rd, that made no sense at all. The three is a little out of his range right now, but that's honestly just a leg strength issue. The shot is on it's just generally short. I thought the chemistry he and Randle showed late was very, very encouraging. He's still been underwhelming, but hopefully he continues to take small steps forward.

I'm not trying to make excuses, because I'm clearly not holding Russell on some pedestal or anything, but I'm not seeing room for Russell to drive to the hoop with the starters. With the bench, Young, Lou, Kelly, al stand around the perimeter, and Bass is under the hoop, so Huertas has a lane. Starters, Kobe is standing on one elbow, Randle on another, both calling for the ball, and Hibbert is parked in the middle of the lane. There's no room, nowhere for Russell to go.

No spacing? Yeah, the advanced stats bear that out. Checking out the spacing he had last year in college in the video...it's night and day.

Wasn't there a guy he had TREMENDOUS chemistry with during summer league and preseason, despite how ugly our offense looked? His name is escaping me...I think it was something like Terry Blake or something...you know... he played backup center before the job was handed to career PF, Brandon Bass.
