D'Angelo's shot is looking better, but man our defense sucks. Kobe chucking those threes really put us in a deep hole early.

Thought Russell was a lot better tonight despite still being misused. Knocked down shots off screens. Wasn't hesitating. Made some sweet dishes and could've had more if our bigs could catch.

Our bigs have trouble catching and finishing.

Feel like I am watching Kwame Brown all over again out there

Thought he played fine with what he's being asked to do. Rondo gave him fits, but Rondo will do that, and it's his first time playing him. I genuinely expect to see steady improvement from him, if Byron lets him do his thing at times.

I expected Rondo to come out gunning since we passed on signing him. Russell has plenty of work to do on the defensive end.

But with our entire team playing god awful defense, I'm not as upset with him as I probably should be.

I honestly thought the Kings were going to drop 50 on us in the 1st quarter, when they had 33 with 3 minutes remaining.

I really hope our decision wasn't this simple. There were more bigs available so you draft a PG over a talent like Okafor? What happened to we took him because we saw star potential and something very special? What happened to doubting many things about Okafor? Not just that there were other bigs and way fewer available PG's? What? Are these old quotes and Bres is trying to stir stuff up?

He clearly does not know how to handle the media. I really do hope we hear something from Mitch or Jeanie soon. The fan base is turning and turning quick.

lol of course he'll be scrutinized... lead guard at 19 in the NBA and not doing what Magic Johnson did as a rookie? We'll hear about how the Lakers should have taken Okafor or Mudiay or Stein or Porzingis or any other rookie who has a good game.

That's why on the Dallas game the FO must force Scott to play Russell, showcase his skills, to shoo the vultures away or get fired. If not Mitch and Jim will not hear the end of it, drafting a bust etc. etc.

I think all it takes is one great game by Russell. If he can manage one 20/10 game, it will show his potential and shut the critics (me included) up, even if he has bad games that follow. Right now, he just looks like a solid rotational player with good poise and IQ. Not bad but not special. In other words, not #2 material.

By the way, Towns was straight up beasting tonight. Never thought he'd be THIS good.

Meanwhile Okafor was 4 for 12, and only had 10 points in a blow out loss for Philly tonight. Lousy showing.

Really this whole comparing rookies thing is idiotic. With most of these guys its apples and oranges anyway as they play very different positions.

It's not about who's performing better right now , it's about who will the best player in several years ...

That being said I don't trust Byron with the development of Dangelo ... and this is a major issue

Only partially true, because it matters when your rookie is posting 28/14 and contributing to wins immediately. Would you rather have a player performing at an all-star level for 5 years or 10 years? It never hurts to get a head start. That's why being "NBA ready" and having a "high floor" is always a factor when drafting and scouting. Towns is just a ridiculous prospect in that regard because he has both a high floor and high ceiling.

And I agree completely with your point RE: development of D'Angelo.

We've got to live with the hesitancy on his post entry lobs, the falling asleep on D, and the allowing a bad start to affect him mentally. He's 19, he's a little over a year removed from high school, and he's starting on a team with two black holes in the starting lineup (I see Randle as one, for better or worse). We're not winning it all this year, so I think we simply let him play 30 a night, let him run the show, and see how it goes. By year's end, we have to have an idea of where he stands. Playing like he has so far, we might not get a read on him. He could be an OJ Mayo-type player, or he could be awesome.

Okafor didn't play well at all last night and neither did Mudiay.

The other rookies are just being allowed to take their lumps while our guy is being analyzed to death and yanked for no real reason.

Russell came out hit his first shot, got an assist, started to look comfortable and Byron benched him. For a while it didn't even look like he would play 20 minutes. We were being blown out anyway so we should have just let the young guys play a lot sooner.

Put him on the floor and let him play. His shot looked better last night and he would have had at least 5 assists if our bigs could catch and finish.

I agree. He should be playing at least 30 a game. Also Kobe needs to follow through with what he said and let Russell really control the flow of the game.
