I loved it when Hibbert stepped up to Booker after he pushed Randle. I'm loving this guy. I felt what he was talking about, too. When MWP came in he brought up the intensity 10 notches with his D and helped them get back on track. Glad that Hibbert appreciated it and said something. I think they need MWP's defense on this team.

Nice hard work from Roy in that 2nd pre season game, though I feared for his health at the end when Byron left him in. Probably to further build his stamina. But reminded one of course of the game D'antoni left Kobe in far too long after minor injuries in the game and contributed to blowing his achilles.

That said, Roy is not a rock with his lower body, though I felt better about the multiple times he wound up on the floor after someone in Gameday said, that was his MO in Indiana too..... lots of falls and get used to it. All the more reason to get him out of there when he's clearly gassed..... and put one of our other CENTERS in the game, not freaking Ryan Kelly. Swear to G Byron.... that was D'antoni esque. Yeah don't think Roy can play big mins. We have Sacre, Black and Upshaw no reason Kelly should be playing the 5.

My hope is these are last chance looks at Kelly and Sacre before biting the salary bullet on both and cutting them loose. If keeping Kelly, only for stretch 4 duty. NOT "small ball" 5. That's what Tarik can do so well. And probably Upshaw as well with how good his is at moving his feet. I've been saying his quickness is WCS lite, but after an article just a day ago I think, saying he was heavy and not in great shape ..... LOL maybe "Bob" has him in quickness now.

Hibbert has impressed me so far. His energy, attitude, defense... it's all good.

Big Roy, I knew he still had game. Honestly, I think he didn't like the pressure of having to be the 3rd/sometimes 2nd option on offense in Indiana. I think he much prefers focusing on defense and taking the offensive opportunities that come naturally. It was great to see him come to Randle's defense too, just smiling after Booker smacked him while staring him down. Hilarious.

When you watch Roy move and run you can see that he is NOT a natural athlete. And for a BIG tall guy like him when he was young, as reported, he must have been something sad trying to play the game at the same speed as everyone else. The reports said he was so lacking athletically when he got to college. Shows his determination to overcome all of that lack of natural physical ability to become a 2 time all star and to be able to play like he did last night in his new life as a Laker. Until he got gassed. Don't break him Byron!!!

Oh and Roy.... ignore sirronstuff when he says your touch around the rim is non existent and painful to watch.   Even if he's right. Keep working at it. [IMG]

Ever been in a pickup game where you want that big, somewhat oafish but agreeable teammate who will set picks, board, be in the way defensively with no predisposed delusions thinking he's Olajuwon down there but be thrown a bone or two once in awhile? Hibbert is that guy! Many a game is decided with someone like that.

Yes, we'd like an O'Neal down there but it ain't happenin'...at least not in this lifetime.

Kobe did, and I am sure will talk with Roy and continue to work with him, exploit Roy's great height and being open on the pick and roll. Too bad the pass didn't get handled but if anyone knows how to feed a good big man on the roll, Shaquille, Pau ..... any of the Olympic bigs he played with.... it's Kobe Bryant. And I think he will make a point of Roy getting the ball on mismatches and rolls for easy dunks and explain it to the other guards as well. Or Roy gets fouled..... and how f****** great was it to see that stroke of his from the line and realize he shoots 82% there.

    :wow:

All we ask from Roy is to play solid defense and grab boards, any extra offense we get is a plus. I don't think he's ever played with so many playmakers before, they'll find him and reward him. Also that free throw stroke is so refreshing.

82% at the charity stripe is a big deal. There are players out there who would be envious of that clip. Hibbert will also alter shots not necessarily block them into the third deck just for show.

I love that he stuck up for Randle. How many times in the past have guys taken cheap shots on Kobe and no one has done anything? Sick of that.

I'd say he has to be careful of over helping at times though.

Yeah, on some instances, he doesn't need to help. Unless the guy is consistently beating a player to the basket for a layup, than Hib can focus on protecting the paint and securing rebounds.

At the same time, the team needs to realize that Hibbert is going to help and provide that secondary rotation. They need to communicate on that.

I think it was important that he set the tone though, even in Pre-Season: don't mess with my teammates. I love it.
