I'm thinking it's NOT a bone bruise as was initially reported. If it were that serious, he wouldn't be able to run on it.

I was wondering what part of his foot has the bruise that orthotics will help. On the bottom? Heel?

I think Russell has all the traits to be a superstar in this league. Great basketball IQ, good handles, vision, excellent playmaking skills, he's an outstanding competitor, size, and while he may not be the quickest guy he knows how to get to the spots of the floor that he can attack. Similar to someone like a Harden.

Yeah, hope the blister is not an issue too. I read right after I asked above that yeah it was a bruise on the bottom of one foot but didn't specify where. So the right orthotic and mate to help alleviate that pressure and impact could definitely help.

I was thinking yesterday watching scrimmage clip 5 that Kobe's still got some great passing skills of his own, with a repertoire probably larger still than D'Angelo's. That must impress the kid as well. He was really getting after it on D against Jordan out past the 3 point line. Looks like he is unexpectedly going to be much better on defense than even hoped for.

He had a beautiful pass on the break tonight that filled me with hope.

^^With you there. He did have some good plays. I'm thinking though we not see a whole lot of him until towards the end of preseason or until his bruise heals up completely.

his shot is still broken, but it doesn't look bad (like randle's). i was actually really encouraged by russell's offense. as his teammates and coaches indicated, he's in control out there. it will be interesting to see how he handles real pressure. the shot will come, imo. his defense is bad right now, but i saw a bit of improvement even during the game.

i agree that he looks to be a competent starting nba pg right now, which might put him a little ahead of schedule (at least ahead of mine).

since ALL of his shots were short, I'm gonna chalk it up to dead legs. the one time he had a truly wide open look with time, he sunk the 3.

Everything that Russell has shot since Summer League has came up short; he's played a lot of basketball this year. Before SL, Byron had the guys on the SL roster doing some conditioning as well. Russell was in the gym right after SL was concluded and then jumped right into the training camp that Byron has had...I believe he just had dead legs, and I noticed this in the scrimmage videos as well. As abeer said, the shot will come...

I am pretty happy with what we are seeing from him. In addition to the other points guys have made, I really like the vibe we are seeing with him and the rest of the team. He and Clarkson in particular are already showing good chemistry which will only get better as they keep playing together.

I think they'll be dunks by the end of camp when the guys aren't running so much in practice.

The entire team had tired legs that's why so many shots were rimming out. Bass's shots all looked pretty good to me, but he's a heavy dude. Running a lot is going to affect his lift for sure.

I thought Russell looked pretty good out there. He held his own. He's still only 19 which gives me great hope because I thought his stat line could have been even better than what he ended up with. Good vision, better decision making, and that shot will start falling when he's not so tired. Solid first showing for him.

I was worried about Russell as our pick and I was concerned with him starting after Summer League. But last night I was very impressed and now I can see him fitting right in as a starter. He showed way more poise and control than he did in the SL. He had a couple of those magnificent passes that got him here, played better D than I thought he would, and was a good running mate for Clarkson and Kobe. I am starting to really like him. He looked like a pro and didn't seem like a rookie. Kobe likes him too!

I was expecting a teenager to get overwhelmed physically and manhandled honestly. I'm certain we'll see that some games, but overall I'm impressed with how he played, his poise, and how he handled himself. He's not a punk.

He's what's going to make Byron look good. The Princeton offense requires a player of his skillset and that's what we got. If we get guys willing to cut, rotate into open space off the ball, which the Princeton tries to achieve, then D'Angelo will have lots of options.

Loved his confidence and poise running the offense.

Saw Russell being carried off the floor last night...a bit off ESPN while at the gym and I was instantly horrified thinking it was serious. Thank goodness it was just a rear end bruise.
