He did. I'm still wondering if this official job in this official capacity affords him the possibility of still working with other guard's around the league? Sure hope so. I'd love for him to continue working w/Russell and JC
He only worked with him a few times. I think his impact on JC is a little overstated now, but yeah he helped him.
I really wanted Nash to stay with us and mentor our young playmakers, or be a shooting coach, part of the player development team, whatever... Oh well.
I liked the idea of Nash as a shooting coach or consultant or something, but let's be real,.. I've never seen anything from him or the team that suggested he would want to stay out of loyalty, friendship, or obligation. I've never even seen a suggestion that the FO would make him an offer. We don't even know if the FO was bitter that he ran out his contract while not even attending games. I know that would leave a bad taste in my mouth. I've never seen Nash say being a Laker, or being a part of the organization after he retired, means anything to him. Not that I thought was heart felt and sincere anyway. This is just cutting ties to a once great player that never really had strong ties to the P&G anyway. I wish him the best... now moving on
 This is an appropriate emoticon for him and his time with the Lakers. But hey, he's finding new ways to be associated with a champion since he wasn't as a player.
Well said I guess as it's true, though I thought it made great sense for both parties to have him here going forward since he lives here, and the seeming help he gave to Jordan last year. F*** him and the horse he rode in on. Fans might think he would have brought the subject up here to have a chance to give back to the franchise in a meaningful way, or.... if the FO brought it up he would have been open to it. Same type of deal as he has with GS now. There were also alleged reports he was getting together informally with Jordan again and possibly Russell this summer. I wonder if it ever happened even once?
Jim Buss just seems like a tightwaded idiot when it comes to basketball operations staff. We could have had Jerry West back on staff I'm sure. He lives in LA. Nash would have loved coming back I'm sure. Let's not forget Jim's statement "If you grabbed 10 fans out of a bar and asked them to rate prospects, their opinions would be pretty much identical to those of the pro scouts". There is no way to say that statement came from a person with real BB knowledge. And of course hiring his bartender Chaz to do the same line of work was the icing.
That was a long time ago. Seems a reach with no real inside knowledge, unless it comes out as to what exactly didn't happen, to lay the blame on Jim at this point.
i'll wait for more details, but my initial reaction is annoyance. the lakers should have offered him the same post, and if they did, he should have taken it in return for their classy treatment of his broken a**. if the lakers didn't offer, I want an explanation. if they did and he refused, he's fired. a pox on him.
Basically agreed. Even without information it stings a little seeing him bail on us after we supported that guy. I can't hold his injuries against him and he didn't ask for the trade but... damn man. We paid this guy 27 million for almost nothing in return. We treated him with great professional courtesy to our own detriment and he's just going to bail to a competitor. Stings.
Knows Kerr from time with Suns. Knows their offense. Some of it makes sense, but I thought some loyalty and living/working in SoCal did too. Disappointing, but not totally surprising.
:woozyshaq:oint::Trophy: Random smilies aside, thank you for saying this. Bynum will undoubtedly go down as one of the most underrated/overly criticized Lakers. I'm gonna get hated for saying this, but we probably don't win another title in the post-Shaq era without Bynum. Yes, Pau and Odom were what made us special. But having Bynum there to hold it down in the paint for 25 minutes a game made a HUGE difference. On top of that, there were several stretches in his career (primarily in his last season with us), where Bynum was the best true center in the NBA since Shaq and Yao. But nope. He shot a couple of three pointers and partied at the Playboy mansion. He's a lazy cancer who took his talents foregranted and never had a competitive taste for the game of basketball. Nevermind that he was plagued with insurmountable injuries. If he just cared about basketball instead of growing an afro and going bowling (which apparently are mutually exclusive), then he'd still be around. (Sorry for the passive aggressive sarcasm. This isn't directed to anyone on here specifically, just the general internet consensus and revisionist history I've read for the past few years).
Sheesh, I still love our big three Bynum, Gasol, Odom lineup of bigs. I clearly said Bynum's knees, the part of his body that acted against him and stopped him from having the career he should have. I have no problem with Bynum, but felt we sold on him at the right time, just with the wrong result. I never was one of those people who had a problem with Bynum's character. I think the mention of Smush may have seemed I was putting Bynum in the dumpster, but I was more referencing his health issues. I could have said Kobe's achilles or such like. Not bothered, I just want to clarify. :headbounce:
Nash is a frontrunner. He was my second favorite player for years after Kobe, but this is clearly an example of a man taking the easy way out. He simply wants the credit for continuing to develop a guy like Curry, without the actual hard work. We took the high road, but the man is clearly a chump. I stayed out of Nash discussions for the last couple years because of my respect for his game, but this is his true character and our young guys are better served learning from true winners. I couldn't be more disappointed in this loser and hope he gets booed if his face is ever shown in Staples again. And for the record, until I hear otherwise, I'm assuming the Lakers wanted Nash in a coaching role. The guy is clearly in search of the easiest way to a ring, even if he has little influence on it.
