yeah, i didn't realize lavine was the exact height (thought he was two inches taller). still more explosive and much more skilled as a ballhandler at the same stage. but anyway, yes, he's got serious tools.
Luka and AR already gave him a shout out a week or more ago. https://x.com/rome_beast/status/2071100735824294159?s=46&t=VpASWooOp-c0BfbMzXjnIw
Agree with this, it’s at the very least a good sign early on, to have a player that goes out and plays like they know they belong. Totally opposite of JHS
He has terrific range and a good sense when to cut. He needs to get minutes because he is going to get so many open shots. Once teams realise he can hit 40%+ when he’s open they’ll just always leave someone on him and the cuts will open up. Defensively is going to be tough this first year, he just doesn’t have much weight on his frame right now.
he looks really good, imo. made several really nice passes, which i wasn't expecting. also watched him pretty closely on defense and generally thought it was ok. not great, but not as bad as some of the negative reel on him in college. funny how nice his shooting touch is most of the time, but he throws up an airball that falls three feet short on a routine attempt once a game. based on other observations, i think this is fatigue. he's got some work to do on his body and his conditioning. this can be overcome, but not immediately. i think he could credibly play nba minutes this year, sort of how we played knecht as a rookie.
I absolutely, positively LOVE that this kid gets to his spots on the floor in the midrange. With time and repetition those shots will become automatic and money in the bank.
l like that, unlike Adou, so far, Cam knows he doesn’t have to always be utilizing or showing off his athleticism. But it’s there anytime he decides to hit the nitrous. I think like young Austin he’s got that confidence … he’s got IT?? Was that you, Tony?
Cam is going to be one of those rooks that won't take long to be impactful. Hopefully JJ is smart enough to play him.
After doing a deep dive on him after the pick was made, I made the call that he was going to be elite at cutting and elite at shooting. So far he is showing that at summer league and I don’t think there is any reason why that won’t translate to the NBA. He has range to the logo and he looks to cut often and can get up. He has the tools to be a handful in transition and has the desire, speed and length to become a very good defender. Those two things will take time. But I think he’ll be ready to contribute points on day 1. Adou meanwhile seems a ways away still.
So nice to read about our 1st round pick looking so good We need these type of young players to develop to balance the roster Does anyone think that the new regime had any influence on this pick?
