Irwin isn’t backing down, so as he says here I guess he’s gonna get sued for lying, starts at about 4:08, ends at about 13:40. I don’t buy everything Irwin says, but I dunno, feels like this was the actual story, and he was the only one who wanted to say it because it doesn’t really matter if Rob hates him, someone like Jovan isn’t going to say it because he works at the actual Lakers facilities and games

What I kind of wonder though, is if he’s such a liar and a phony and all that, why do these guys like Jovan and Pete do a show with him now, why does Trevor come on his pod time to time, like why don’t these guys turn their back on him if has no sources and is pretending. I mean he used to host a weekly show with a member of our FO..

Because they're are all independents and gotta make a living. Being on each other podcasts builds their name and followers. These guys don't pay ads, their marketing is being on other guys pods and Twitter posts.

You can actually see how much Irwin craves for attention and forces all the "content creator jargon". I mean wasn't he who was selling the Hurley in LA? I can't remember which signing it was, but a couple years ago max he was harping on something for a long time as a sure thing and we did the complete opposite

But you're free to believe him. As everything else, we'll likely never know

you're leaning on him not getting sued; i'm leaning on rob not being fired or investigated. again, you can't do this! you think the players' association is good with such things? if DFS thinks it happened, he should report it to them, and they should investigate it.

and he doesn't have to be a liar. his sources could be lying, and he's just a s***ty journalist with a bias visible from outer space.

he's baselessly speculating to start the clip you mention. the lakers didn't know he might opt out? really? (raj calls him on this and irwin does his "sure hope not" thing) they didn't know someone else might pursue him? just totally shocked, huh? and then he just repeats what he said before as fact when it flies in the face of reason. saying it again doesn't make it true. did teams call rob and ask about DFS's ankle? did he just acknowledge surgery? i'm not sure what you can say, from like an HR perspective here. and if a gm calls me telling me not to sign his guy because he's dead, i'm probably not going to listen to this, anyway.

the claims of his journalistic integrity are hilarious, btw. there's just so little evidence that all he does is report the facts.

he reported some b******* someone told him and keeps suggesting it's real but all he's saying is that he heard it, not that it's true. clever. you can tell raj is uncomfortable there, too. like...i have to let him say this wild stuff so that we can do shows together, but...i'm not joining...

reptilian rob aside, i want people to get a bit more perspective on the DFS situation. now that FA has played out some, we're seeing that keeping DFS and signing a center was impossible. the very best outcome we could have hoped for at center was maybe trading for nick richards (still not sure the suns would do this anyway). but capela and brolo went for well over the tpmle. in fact, centers just haven't been available. so we'd have been over a barrel in trade negotiations again, only saddled with a contract that no, we would NOT be able to easily move in two years.

4 year full MLE to DFS was just not something we could reasonably do.

I'm not losing sleep over losing DFS .. I barely witnessed the great defense he was supposed to play AND he couldn't rebound so ..

    Finney-Smith was serviceable...couldn't make a layup however.

He was fine but not the game changer fans were sold on imo .

Given the contract he signed with Houston , it's an easy pass

eh, he was one of the leaders in plus/minus during his time here, and it did feel like a real "vibe shift" when we switched him for dlo. maybe that's as much subtraction of someone who clearly was always on the way out or addition of DFS or both, but it definitely happened.

none of that means we had to meet his price, though. i saw someone else refer to it as getting bullied into a bad contract, and i get that.

we probably didn't want to go past two years, and he wanted 4. he got it; good for him. we probably upgraded talent-wise, and i guess we'll see what his intangible value was going forward.

houston's a better situation for him in that they don't need him to carry the load we did, too. they have thompson and eason to send as primary defenders and eat most of those minutes, and DFS is just a mentor/backstop type guy. they can afford it because they don't have two max guys--they're in a sweet spot before thompson gets his payday and can afford to pay that much for a bit player. we can't.

ok, guess we'll see if luka turns down the extension because DFS was mad that people said that rob was trashing him.

from the same piece, and what i kept saying:

i just don't get the story.

the simplest explanation is the DFS's agent and/or DFS got pissed the lakers wouldn't go past two years. things clearly spiraled from there, as they can. i'd rather DFS be mad than us be locked into a 32-year old who's been declining for years and just had ankle surgery. in fact, had we signed him to that deal, all we'd be hearing about is how rob just tied an anchor around our necks and lost on the margins again, and how luka was going to sign regardless so why overpay his friend, etc.

I thought DFS had a foot operation .... no? What's all this knee talk about? Just asking for Slick probably :D it's clear the Lakers didn't want to pay him in the range he wanted for more than 2 years and they knew he wanted longer so negotiations anyway seemed doomed from the start. What's the incentive to scare teams off if THEY were the ones "inquiring" about him since he was an unrestricted free agent? Why would they need to call Rob in the first place? They would have to have been inquiring maybe about a trade? If so why would Rob "want" to diminish his value? The only other scenario makes even less sense, that knowing he was only going be willing to give 2 years max, and there were going to be as reported .... what ... a half dozen or more teams interested in trying to sign DFS in that ball park salary for maybe more years to get him .... Rob was "cold calling" all these GM's to scare them off on his health. These are just logical questions in my not brightest of brains :p but for Rob to have done what's being hinted at and insinuated, to me anyway it just sounds ....

    :Crazyartest:

I saw on LG a comment that in addition to his long career as an agent he's a fully accredited BAR member. Who would know the implications of doing such a thing. All I got.

Didn't he have ankle surgery before leaving? Strangeness all around. Maybe Pelinka did NOT intentionally badmouth him. Caught strays?

OK yes it was an ankle, not a foot. So no idea about any conversation about some "knee problem" as reported in there this season with us?

irwin initially said "knee", probably because he was so excited to smear rob he missed the details. or his source was clueless. he quickly corrected it, though, to be fair.

doesn't change the fact that people repeatedly concoct stories that require rob to be an absolute drooling moron for it to make sense. not just malevolent, but incredibly stupid. again, the article cited above admits as much in more than one section. it's a wild accusation likely based on a kernel of truth somewhere that's been twisted to various agendas (e.g., someone asked rob why they weren't offering more than two years, and he told the truth--he's old and just had ankle surgery).

people get all up in their feelings about money, perceived value, millions of dollars, etc.

Probably much ado about nothing as far as fans are concerned. Didn't stop our last two signings I guess. *shrug*
