Goodwin is a joy to watch: he's a excellent rebounder for a guard and I'm not kidding as an offball defender he is legit NBA all defense type. Rotations are really good and he's great at denying the ball

I just don't know if he's good enough though as a 1v1 on ball defender just yet. Maybe the key for the Lakers in several matchups is if he recreate what Caruso and hedgehog used to do against ballhandlers

I have been low key in back of my head intrigued since Jordan joined the Lakers about some of the early comments likening him to a poor man's Josh Hart, and we all loved Josh and what he brings to the court. Rough searches brought up Jordan at 6'5" 200lb with Josh at 6'4" 215lb. Jordan with 35" vertical and Josh 37.5" and 6'10" vs 6'9" wingspans respectively. Jordan is a young 26 turned Oct 23 and Josh a just turned 30 March 6. Josh is making 20M a year for the next couple while we now have Jordan at THE most base minimum salary and not even fully guaranteed next year with team option. Both have a 112 and change defensive rating. Here's a player comparison:

    https://craftednba.com/players/comparison?player1=jordan-goodwin&player2=josh-hart

Seems to me [IMG] ..... again ..... SCOREBOARD Buss brothers and Pelinka!! With how JJ and staff are taking our young players to new heights in their now kind of expected future ceilings ...... and that in no way is Jordan 18M "less" of a player than Josh.

It feels like we got him out of nowhere. What a pickup.

    Wasn’t he basically trade filler?

He's super underrated but I think a better comparison is Alex Caruso. If I'm the Lakers, I would snag Goodwin up long-term. Only age 26... same age as Reaves and Doncic. Lakers have a great opportunity to create a strong future here while still being able to remain title contenders.

no, he'd played ok at phx and memphis the past couple of years. i remember him from those days. for some reason i thought he was a chucker scoring guard from the games i watched. i apparently was wrong, as his prime skill was defense at those stops as well.

anyway, we just picked him up off the street, so the scouts again deserve some credit. really takes some of the sting out of losing max.

I forgot we just signed him instead of him being included in a trade. Yes that’s good work from the scouting for sure.

Well that wouldn't suck either if he could be AC. But the Eagle is ELITE on D and I don't think Jordan can be that good while I don't think Josh Hart is considered to be an elite defender. Very good sure .... and even there Goodwin may have aways to go to be considered "very" good? Josh has an additional 15lbs of mass and muscle on him and a bit more athleticism (?) but Jordan does do a lot of similarly good things all around as a basketball player as does Hart.

I remember he got some hype as one of the vet mins Phoenix got that summer, along with Watanabe and others. He was meant to be a good fit with Booker as he brought defense. But never really worked for whatever reason.

I think he's more Hart than Caruso. He rebounds really well, is not elite in any skill but can do a bit of everything and he's just always active.
Caruso is in the convo for best defender in the league, can handle more the rocket and is smarter.

I'm really happy with him and he's a great player to have when you're contending.

he's currently properly slotted at a 9th man, but i could see him growing beyond that.

Yes, Goodwin is solid. Comp-wise as long as they don't leave him hanging on high fives.

That’s a real shame, every time we do some good stuff, something on the margins has to be not so good. With Smart’s recent injury history, having Goodwin around could have been useful, was really hoping to see a consolidation trade instead of this.

Yeah, that's a real bummer. At worst, great insurance. At best, you know...defensive depth.

Yeah. Hate to see him go. Are we able to potentially bring him back down the road?

He's 26. If Goodwin was 23 even he wouldn't be going anywhere but his gradual improvements is just not enough at his age for him to be prioritized for continued development

Sucks as he was baller. Lakers beat regular season run last year seemed to be when they had a bunch of junkyard dogs like Goodwin getting minutes

Bummer. Good for him though. Ironic that they were after Smart and settled for who we cut to sign Smart.
