I’m surprised there isn’t more of this stuff happening. The G league has lots of athletes or older talents that couldn’t quite crack the NBA for whatever reason. You’re telling me you can’t find 3&D role players there that can translate to this level? Or even just microwave scorers? Or shooters? Or just energy defence guys?
It takes a certain level of scouting. Then a certain level of coaching, coaching up/player development, and communication both with the player and with your G-League affiliate of what you want the player to work on. We check all those boxes. Maybe only a handful of teams say the same.
His read for the game as a G-League player is amazing. He has a great feel to get in position for rebounds and make a steal. And just a few months ago, we never heard of him. Crazy how things unfold. Okay, I'm being serious. I know he won't qualify for an All-NBA defensive award this season but this guy has All-NBA Defensive type defense. I see a lot of Tony Allen in his game!
That was unreal stretch of defense where he had like 3 steals in 4 Denver possessions Don't know how this guy ended up being a 2 way player
I think it’s those long arms, opposing players are underestimating the length and the ball gets snatched
I believe he has 4 more games of eligibility left. I expect that he will be signed to a regular contract shortly.
Yeah my eyes are now fully awake on him too and as much as I like Gabe and I like him better than Dennis the ..... it seems like Jordan can take his spot in the roster which opens up Vincent's expiring 11.5M plus Kleber's expiring 11M, and Shake's 3M(?? already non guaranteed) as well for a trade this summer. With no fear of losing ball handling depth or his offense, nice when he's on but inconsistent. We are loaded with guys that can handle the ball. Including next year Bronny and if they loosen the reins a bit I see Dalton's work on his handles coming along nicely too (for his own shot ... not running the offense).
He's got 4 games left and I pray the Lakers are not going to be stupid or cheap and wait until last game of the season to sign him. He has become a critical piece in our rotation and he's actually filled in admirably for Max Christie which was a huge loss for us...and I think Lakers should absolutely sign him to a multi-year deal...3-4 year deal at the minimum with an opt out in year 2 (to keep him motivated). Goodwin is going to allow us some more flexibility this summer too with some of our other guys that I hope we plan on flipping for a big. I love everything Goodwin has done and hats off to our scouting and Rob for picking him up shortly after the trade in what I'll say was a VERY underrated pickup in the midst of everything going on!!
^^^ DFS and Shake made up for DLO’s weakness in the playoffs. Luka made up for EVERYTHING!! And Jordan made up for Alex Len.
