Looks like you can trade him dec 15th but his contract is an albatross now. That's 4 year dead weight deal you would need to give up assets for to dump.
Meh..you guys like to vacilate, between overrating some of our players, and then calling them garbage, that nobody else wants. Max is 21 years old, he has potential, he just needs playing time IMO. He can get that in Washington, the Wizards don't really need Jonas, Christie is a young prospect, locked up on a cheaper deal.
Umm Ive been pretty clear about my skepticism here with not so Max. He is a poor prospect on an awful deal. He'd be a great tank commander to sell to some sucker fan base on a short deal but no team management is going to want to swallow a 4 year deal worth MLE type of money.
Jonas is 32, plays 20min a game at 10M per for 3 seasons. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. They sent us Rui, for Kendrick Nunn.
Cam just leapfrogging roles left and right. Took Max's spot, took DLO's spot, and (because he's sick) took Rui's allocated shots. Watch out Bron and AD, he's coming for you next.
I like Cam. I love his defense and his energy. But I don’t think this is a sustainable situation. He’s not a starting level player by any stretch (very weak offensively). Ideally we would have Vando in the starting lineup instead with Dlo and Reaves to shore up the wing defense and Rui providing scoring punch off the bench. We’ve got some struggling opponents coming up for a bit so JJ probably continues to go with this for the next 5 games or so. But this seems like a stop gap measure.
during the summer, i really wondered whether the max deal and valanciunas deal were kind of tied together in some way. not officially, but maybe washington (or someone) had signaled interest in max on a deal like the one we signed him to. obviously, his play since then might have changed minds, but at the time, it seemed possible to me that the contract was meant to be a potential trade chip as much as anything. vando's death has just sucked, imo. if he's alive, i think he allows us to start dlo/reaves because he can take whomever is the biggest perimeter threat defensively. cam is doing that now, but i felt like vando was even better at it--plus, we'd have two! and i know dlo off the bench is working ok now, so maybe who cares. but i still loved the brief period of the AD/bron/vando/reaves/dlo starting lineup. we killed with it. rui has played pretty well with starters, but i prefer him as a bench player. i think this is the wrong thread for all this. i'm glad cam is having a positive impact, in any case. good for him, good for us. takes most of the sting out of max struggling.
@abeer3 I think the Lakers have a lot of potential good non 4th quarter lineups such as this but the dilemma remains lineups like this would still get shellacked by Denver when they go to their top lineups to finish games. Just don't know how the Lakers would survive teams playing physical with Dlo when the lakers are on offense and than targeting Dlo on switch hunting and off ball help. DLo and Rui to a lesser extent aren't good enough offensively to make up for the their defense and you can only really play one of Cam/Vando. Need another move to get someone like a Cam Johnson who is a above average on both defense/offense to finish games and complete these lineups
.... if, not that he's going to be getting the minutes now but hypothetically, if he were to start hitting 3s again up around high 30s in his limited attempts and stop trying to dunk on bigger players waiting for him at the rim .... would you still be that doomsday down on him? It's not like that's some high bar for him and is impossible to happen. With the new money levels coming 8M locked in for a team like the Wizards or other tankers wanting young prospects isn't an albatross of a contract. And it's entirely possible it was meant to be a trade chip kind of a salary, and still can be.
yeah, i disagree. it also took some crazy shotmaking from denver guys (including vando-esque shooters like gordon) for us to get "shellacked" by a couple points. also, i wasn't talking 4th quarter. i want to start halves with that group. doesn't mean you finish them that way. if dlo's unplayable in crunch time, you don't have him out there. again, i think that was the theory behind the gabe signing, but it hasn't worked out just yet.
Oh I think we can still move him. He's not off to a good start but the recent swing of guys blowing up in new locations should help here.
I hate to sound like a broken record but outside of rebounding, he's just not a good NBA level basketball player. Let says he hits open 3s does that negate the atrocious defensive positioning he gets into or the dumb TO"s he makes? There was a good case to be made that Max was the worst NBA player getting minutes before he got benched Teams actually pay people to watch games unlike my d****** and I doubt they aren't seeing the same things I mean in garbage time, he hit an open 3! Yea then he followed that up by driving right into a shotblocker recklessly and getting blocked once again emphatically.
I suppose next you'll claim JHS wasn't a good pick? Yeah, damn the analytics sure are bad this year. WTF Max??
Max will be the new Zubac. I'm pretty sure of it But I also understand you trade him for an immediate upgrade
Without a doubt. As long as we trade him for an actual, 2-way, impact player instead of another Muscala, I'm all for it. This roster needs help now, not in 2 years.
hmmm...who would be this version of muscala? an 11th man wing with limited upside who fills an immediate need--but only in theory?
